User :   My mom (40yrs) has GERD and today she found blood in her stool. im scared. she is in the emergency room right now. what is happening?
Doctor :   ok
User :   is this very serious? im really scared.
Doctor :
since when is she having these problems?
User :   shes had gerd for atleast four months and today she found blood in her stool
Doctor :   severe gastritis wit GERD can cause gastrointestinal bleed. and if in lower GI tract, the bleeding is evident in stools
Doctor :
the stools examination should be done
Doctor :
to find the cause and also a colonoscopy to see the source of bleeding
Doctor :   and treat it
User :   can this be life threatening? she looked pale and had a lot of stomach pain.
Doctor :
what other symptoms does your mother have?
Doctor :   if the bleeding is not much, then it is not life threatening
Doctor :
the pale look she has could be due to the pain itself
Doctor :   but the cause for the bleed should be investigated
Doctor :
have you followed what i have said?
User :   yes
User :   she also has migraines for which she takes excedrins. i believe she took one today. can this be a cancer or an ulcer..
User :   ?
Doctor :   GERD symptoms can be controlled with diet changes , medications and lower esophageal sphincter training
User :   so is this a symptom of GERD itself?
Doctor :
the possibility and diffrentiation between cancer and the ulcer can be done by doing a endoscopy
Doctor :
which will visualize the inside of the GI tratct
Doctor :
and let us know what lesions she is having
Doctor :
and what is the cause for it
Doctor :
so she wil need endoscopy along with a colonoscopy, and stools test

Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
