Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
How can i help you?
User :   Hello, I was just getting a little worried about these headaches I have been getting daily.
Doctor :
Please explain.
User :   I have been getting them pretty much everyday for about a month now.
Doctor :
Ok
User :   They are dull achy type, I have had migraines before this is nothing like those
Doctor :
Ok
User :   Ive looked online and they seem like they are tension headaches
Doctor :
Ok
Doctor :
Do you have any other symptoms associated with the headaches?
Doctor :
such as vomiting, fever?
User :   No
Doctor :
Is it one sided headache or is the pain present over both the sides?
User :   I had a cold for the last few days and I didn't notice the headache but just a sore throat and runny nose. Its getting better now.
Doctor :
And how long does each episodes last?
User :   The headache was on the right side for the first couple of weeks but now on the left.
User :   Today it feels like it is there but not enough to be a headache yet. I feel like if I stress out or do too much that it will start.
Doctor :
Are you on any treatment of migraine headache?
User :   no
Doctor :
Ok.
Doctor :
Do you have any other medical problems such as
Doctor :
diabetes]
User :   I had gastritis which caused me all sorts of problems, mainly mental issues. So I am worried about taking too much tylenol or advil now.
Doctor :
hypertension
User :   Nope no diabetes or hypertension.
Doctor :
thyroid problems?
User :   nope
Doctor :
Are you on any hormonal pills?
User :   My gastritis had me at the cardiologists office, gastroenterologist, rheumatologist and all cleared me
User :   I take Xanax sometimes and Zolpidem to sleep occassionally
Doctor :
Ok
User :   Other than that its excedrin tension, tylenol extra strength or advil
Doctor :
I shall explain
Doctor :
The headache may be due to tension headaches like you suggested
Doctor :
or may be due to the aggravation of your migraine
Doctor :
aggravation can occur in times of infection
Doctor :
especially a viral infection
Doctor :
Since you have had viral flu that could explain why these symptoms have increased.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   Honestly while I had this cold I did not notice the headache but I had the headache from about 3 weeks before the cold and again the headaches returned as the cold is going away
Doctor :
Headaches can be part of infection during and after an infection
Doctor :
which will settle as the infection reduces.
Doctor :
And this may be a possibility too.
User :   so how long do I go on with this before I should be worried?
User :   Is it safe to take 2 tylenol a day for weeks? How about 2 advil a day?
Doctor :   I shall explain the treatment plan now.
User :   I also am taking 1 zantac everyday. And I take it with advil if I do take an advil.
Doctor :
The treatment would be as follows
Doctor :
1. You need adequate body rest.
Doctor :   a proper sleep will give you atleast 50 to 75 percent of relief from the pain.
Doctor :
2. Tab tylenol one tablet does not cause gastritis
Doctor :
it can be used during gastritis
User :   Well when I have two bad nights of sleep I take the zolpidem for the third night. That doesn't happen too often though
Doctor :
You can try tylenol
User :   Tylenol for more than 10 days is ok? I would only take 2 tabs a day
Doctor :
You may avoid advil though
Doctor :
advil contains ibuprofen and may cause gastritis
Doctor :
Yes you can use tylenol for 10 days and more than that too.
Doctor :
It is safe
User :   Sometimes the advil is the only thing that will fix it. The other night I took excedrin tension which has acetaminophen and caffeine and the headache was bad. Then I took some tums and two advil a few hours later and the headache went away.
User :   I was told that my gastritis is always going to be there, so I monitor my food real good and I notice I do not have any of the pains but if I were to eat fast food or pizza I definately feel the pains.
Doctor :
If such bad headaches occur you can use advil along with the medicine given against gastritis.
User :   So you say tylenol is the safest and is ok for more than 10 days?
Doctor :
That should solve the problem of gastritis
User :   The headaches are rarily bad, that was the first time this entire time. Usually tylenol does the job.
Doctor :
Yes tylenol has relatively very less complication and can be taken for a long time.
User :   Is excedrin with caffeine and acetaminophen safe for me as well?
Doctor :
Yes
Doctor :
only if tylenol does not reduce these headaches try the next drug that is advil.
Doctor :
3. You can include one multivitamin pill for a week
Doctor :
This will help in the recovery of the flu infection
Doctor :
Plain tylenol is better for long use.
User :   How do I know if this is just tension or something else? I started yoga and I go in every two weeks for a massage and have really tried to destress my life and there has been no change in my headaches. What do you recommend for the multivitamin
Doctor :
Preferable to avoid excedrin for a long duration treatment.
Doctor :
Since you recently have had the infection, it would be difficult to differentiate it now.
User :   ok then I will try and stick with just the extra strength tylenol
Doctor :
If these headaches persists even after a week of complete recovery of the infection
Doctor :
then the other causes of the headaches may be the reason for the headaches.
User :   I went to the eye dr and he did not think it was my eyes either.
User :   So if this continues how long should I wait to go to my regular doctor?
Doctor :   the other causes may be chronic tension headaches, viral encephalitis and so on..
Doctor :   4. You may have to visit the doctor if these headaches persists for more than a week from now or if the severity of the headaches increase
Doctor :
or if you develop symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.
User :   ok I will do that then.
Doctor :
5. Lastly avoid undue stress
User :   Thank you very much for your help.
Doctor :
Stress management is also equally important
Doctor :
And please follow regular meal habits
Doctor :
fasting can aggravate your headaches,
Doctor :
Do you have any other query?
User :   no, thanks
Doctor :   Please fill the feed back form too.

User :   ok thank you
