User :   hello, we cannot remove ring of finger that is probably not broken, but we are not sure. Finger is swollen and base is blue. Is there any risk in leaving the ring on until the finger is less swollen ?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   is there any numbness or tingling in the finger?
User :   no noot yet, just painful
Doctor :   was there any injury associated?
Doctor :   how did the finger swell up? since when is the swelling present?
User :   nothing major, just pulled in wrong direction while handling a heavy bag
Doctor :   when did this happen?
Doctor :   has the swelling been reducing sinc ethe tim eof onset?
User :   this afternoon, 3PM EST, swelling started afterwards. We put lost of ice around for cooling
Doctor :   *time of
Doctor :   ok
User :   swelling not reduced, but stopped getting worse. Some blue below finger below ring
Doctor :   Continue use cold ice packs every 10-15 minutes
Doctor :   and see if teh swelling starts to come down
Doctor :   is there pain on movement of finger? if yes in what directions of movement?
User :   sideways mainly, plus touching
Doctor :   ok
User :   so ice is still useful after so many hours ?
Doctor :   it would be useful if the swelling is not getting worse
User :   if the swelling goes down, then leave ring on ? If not ?
Doctor :   the permanent solution would be however to get the ring cut and relieve the congestion
Doctor :   and get the finger examined to look for any injury
User :   we may do that tomorrow, any risk in postponing it that long ?
Doctor :   if the pain gets worse, and you develop numbness or tingling, then do not wait, go to ER and get it examined
Doctor :   since that you would mean compression and damage to the nerves
User :   OK, clear, thanks a lot
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
Doctor :   are you taking any medications at present?
User :   No thanks, that's it for now
User :   no medications
Doctor :   Take Tab Tylenol 1 tab 2 times a day for pain relief
Doctor :   it will also aid in getting the inflammation down
User :   OK, we have somthing similar
Doctor :   continue with the ice packs as suggested.
User :   OK, will do
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now. Take care.
User :   thanks
