Feeling heaviness at the back of the head. What can be done? - Online Doctor Chats
How are you doing?
I am fine, thank you
How can I help you?
for the past 1 week, I have a heaviness feeling in the backside of my head
it is not really a headache, but head feels heavy.
when I lie down, I can sense a bit of uneasiness
Only one side of the head is affected or both sides?
only the back side
i think in the center specially
Does it get worse in the evenings?
yeah. usually I sense it when I am trying to lie down.
also at times in the morning after waking up
recently I increased my running activity..substantially.
let me check the eye
no redness and discharge from nose
Does this get better when you eat something?
I did not realize that.
There are 2 things I am thinking of XXXXXX
when I bend my head even now, I can sense slight pain
First, it can be tension headache
I stretched hard for my running training
I increased my running regimen last week
No mental stress
usual. but I do work long hours
last week there was less sleep
on few nights
There are a few things that need to be addressed
First, you will need to eat at regular intervals
So every 3-4 hours, you should be eating something
Second, have plenty of fluids especially ELECTRAL when you are exercising a lot
Take 1 XXXXXXX of ELECTRAL and mix with 1 litre of water
This needs to be taken within 24 hours
This will keep you hydrated
ok. actually I was diagnosed with high sugar around 5 months back
about 6.7% H1BAC
Have you gotten your sugar levels checked recently?
yes my workout regimen started with that.
I have been on diet since then
I reduced 15 kgs of weight in 5 months
What about the sugar levels?
they have become very normal now
my last fasting and post prandial were very normal
That will cause heaviness in the head
ok.. has it gone to the other extreme?
SO main treatment would be to have regular meals, have plenty of fluids
sorry I am confused a bit
Let me explain
Actually, people with prediabetes or diabetes have a problem with the glucose balance
ok I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic
This will lead to a situation where the blood sugar levels keep fluctuating
So all your exercise and diet should be in moderation
Dont increase your exercise levels without suitably modifying your diet
You will need to eat at regular intervals
Particularly after you workout
Also, sleep properly and dont overexert yourself
Keep a packet of glucose with you always
ok my case was actually impaired glucose tolerance
You take this glucose at once
As I explained XXXXXX, when the glucose tolerance is impaired
the levels will fluctuate when you exercise too much
Your body is not able to maintain the balance and low blood sugar can be very XXXXXXX
ok.. I thought after weight reduction and balanced diet.. my glucose levels became normal
But dont exercise too much
ok fine. I understand that. I will keep the balance
You should be doing cardio for 50 minutes and some weight training
It needs to be done regularly
also, a suitable diet needs to be designed
Yeah I was doing for an hour only.. But I started to run around 5 kms on the treadmill
that was the exertion
I was training for a marathon
You should only jog XXXXXX
Running on a treadmill can damage your knee joints over the long term
so headache is a sign of low blood sugar?
Are you feeling that heaviness right now?
Yes it can be
It can also be related to the stress partially
will the low sugar be detected in tests
So sleep well, exercise and diet in moderation and you should be good
or it happens anytime during the day
When you feel heaviness in your head, that time if you give a blood sample
It should show a low blood sugar
ok.. the next time I feel that I will give a blood sample
wud that be for fasting or otherwise
at that time, just give a blood sample for random blood glucose
Is there anything else I can help you with?
thanks doctor. I have no queries
Bye for now
