Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello doctor
User :   Hi doctor, I had sex with a partner one and half week back , who is married. This was the first time i had sex and i am not sure i used condomn properly. I am starting to get body pains and feel lethargic . She went for an Elisa test just before we had intercourse and the result was negative...Do i have the risk of getting HIV?I am paranoid on this .Please help me .If so when is the appropriate time for me to get tested ?
User :   i have posted my qn above
Doctor :   please give me a couple of mins to read your query
User :   k
Doctor :   may i know your age ?
User :   25
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   the partner was acquainted to you?
User :   yes
User :   she is my old friend
Doctor :   ok , did you notice any condom break
User :   the first time i had intercourse , the condomn stuck to her when i removed myself from her
Doctor :   ok
User :   also she dint have sex for the previous 5 months or so ....
User :   and so i asked her to take the elisa test...
User :   she got hiv -ve (0.035)
Doctor :   elisa was done before she had intercourse with you and were there any other tests which you got her to do?
User :   it was done 4 days prior we had intercourse...
User :   no other test was done
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   may i know if she is generally doing well with health and does she have any problems?
User :   she has some cough issues...
User :   other than that she is fine
Doctor :   ok , let me explain it to you
User :   k
Doctor :   a condom is used to prevent transmission of any STD
Doctor :   by STD i not onyl mean Hiv
Doctor :   but there are other diseases as well
Doctor :   like syphilis , hepatitis , chlymydia , etc
User :   are they curable???
Doctor :   yes, they are , most of the STD are curable
User :   what do you mean by most??? what are the exemptions?
Doctor :   Hiv AND Hepatitis are not
Doctor :   they will remain in the body once acquired
Doctor :   let me explain it to you
User :   but i guess if a person has hepatatis , she should be having sores in the genitals right ??
Doctor :   having body pain and weakness does not mean you have An STD
User :   sorry doctor...carry on
Doctor :   since you did use condom, i feel there is very minimal risk of transmission
Doctor :   it is not mandatory that a person has sores in genitals
Doctor :   it may or may not be there are they take long time to appear
Doctor :   the person may just be new to the infectiona nd he can pass it on to his partner
Doctor :   since you know your partner and she is doing fine
Doctor :   you need not worry
Doctor :   I would suggest you get yourself tested for STD's if you feel anxious about them
Doctor :   since your not sure about the proper condom use
Doctor :   let me tel you that the risk of getting an STD if the condom has been used well is very less
User :   doctor , i had the intercourse just 1 week before ... can the std's be detected
User :   ?
Doctor :   yes , they can be detected soon after exposure
User :   ok ,,, regarding hiv doctor??? since my partner doesnt have hiv ,do i still have the risk of getting it
Doctor :   may i know if you are married ?
User :   she had intercourse with her husband 5 months it should have been detected in elisa right ?
User :   no
Doctor :   ok , is she the only partner you have had sex with ? anytime earlier did you have any encounters//
User :   no ...this was my first time
Doctor :   yes , if she was HIV positive , her elisa would reveal it by 5 months
User :   so i can be safe that i am safe about hiv right ???
Doctor :   since she is married , she would be aware of condom usage and did you ask her , what she felt about the condom slippage , did she feel there was contact?
Doctor :   yes ,there is probably no chance of HIV if she is negative and the only partner you have had intercourse with
User :   she said there was no contact.....when i removed it stuck to her genitals....hence there was no contact as far as we think
User :   or should i go for p24antigen test in a month after i had intercourse ?
Doctor :   i feel it is not needed
Doctor :   But if it constantly in your mind , better to get it done , though i do not think of any possibilities
User :   the problem is doctor that it happened out of the blue...i do not want to infect my partner whom i may marry in 6 months or so
User :   k
User :   doctor, is the lethargy and body pain which i have is relevant to any std's???
Doctor :   ok , i understand your concern and appreciate that you have such good thoughts
User :   because from the night i had intercourse , i couldnt sleep.... is the stress causing me these pains or what???
Doctor :   letharg or body pain do not indicate an STD specifically
User :   but why do i have this lethargy doctor ???
Doctor :   yes , i feel it is due to stress and anxiety only
User :   also some body pains
Doctor :   ok , I suggest you get a routine blood and urine test done
Doctor :   it could be anemia or generalised weakness
User :   also doctor , i feel some genital pains too.....
User :   i cannot clearly say that it is pain
Doctor :   ok , do you see any lesions
User :   no
User :   i have the pain in my right groin doctor
Doctor :   ok
User :   i think i was having similar pains long time before i had sex
Doctor :   any pain during urination or burning feeling ?
User :   no pain doctor........
Doctor :   ok
User :   but sometimes slight burningbecause of the heat doctor
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   i suggest you get a complete blood and urine test
Doctor :   and a general examination
Doctor :   sometimes urine infection do cause this
User :   k
Doctor :   so a complete blood count , hemoglobin, blood sugar and urine routine and microscopy will help
User :   this can be done even today right doctor or i have to wait for a month or so
Doctor :   you can do it today itself
User :   k
Doctor :   do you have any swelling in your groin?
User :   no doctor..nothing like that
Doctor :   ok , I suggest you get these tests done and for your re assurance get the STD tests as well
User :   sure doctor
Doctor :   i hope i answered your questions
Doctor :   did you follow my suggestions ?
User :   yeah doctor...just one clarification ....
Doctor :   sure tell me
User :   do you feel that the lethargy and body pain is symptomatic to any std's or so??
Doctor :   they may be seen in STD's but there are many other causes as well for it
User :   because i used to sweat / feel very tired even before i had the intercourse....
Doctor :   Std's being not first in our list
Doctor :   so let us frst get the routine tests and then think of other causes
User :   k doctor , so i get all the blood tests done as well as std's
User :   and after a month i ll do the p24antigen test
Doctor :   you can do p24 anytime
Doctor :   yes , after a month
Doctor :   or even now
User :   even now ???
Doctor :   i mean the other tests
Doctor :   even now i feel the p24 may not be neded
