User :   I am a 27 y/o female. I am thirsty all the time, so I drink lots of water. I do not drink soda -occasionally coffee or wine, but on occasion. I exercise regularly and eat a well balanced diet. I have a problem with going pee all the time....sometimes a little amount & sometimes alot, which is probably because I drink a whole lot of water. I also never feel like my bladder is annoying and sometimes I sit on the toilet for long periods for a drop to come out. Anyways, it has been two years. Six months ago I demanded further testing and got all blood work done to include an electrolyte panel. The only thing out of the normal range was that I had a low chloride level and my sodium was on the low end but within normal range. The doctor said it was probably from being overhydrated. Two months ago I got a burning sensation while peeing and then a headache and went into an urgent care and I had a kidney infection. Though I am pain free and have no headache I still pee all the time and I have the feeling of having an empty bladder and I am thirsty. I am wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if you know if having a low chloride level and all these other symptoms is a sign of anything. I have no health insurance at the moment I am a disabled veteran and the only healthcare I recieve is from the VA and they are wayyyyy slow.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   Let me read the query.
User :   what kind of dr are you
User :   also can a uti cause a pap smear to be abnormal?
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   27
Doctor :   Since when are you having these symptoms?
User :   which one
User :   two years, but it has gotten worse lately
Doctor :   Have you had your sugars checked?
User :   Yes and it was normal....I thought it was a sign of diabetes
User :   I don't eat sugar.....ever!
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Are you on any medications?
User :   hydroxyzine for allergies
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
User :   please
Doctor :   Since I do not have access to the reports that were done and neither can I perform a physical examination, I cannot pinpoint the exact cause for your symptoms.
Doctor :   Nevertheless, I shall provide you with informations
User :   that would be nice
Doctor :   There are two common causes for excessive thirst and increased urination which is been happening for a long time.
Doctor :   One as you know is diabetes which is looked for.
Doctor :   2. Is diabetis insipidus.
User :   which isn't related to diabetes....
User :   so what do people take
Doctor :   Its completely differently from diabetes mellitus.
Doctor :   It happens due to hormonal disturbances.
Doctor :   Hormones of the pituatory gland.
Doctor :   You may have to be evaluated for this too.
User :   Aren't Pit glands part of the normal yearly check for women? He checked my thyroid and it was good
Doctor :   This can be done by getting few test which includes urine osmolality levels, serum ACTH levels and if needed other pituitary hormones checked.
Doctor :   You will have to see an endocrinologist who will be able to assist you with this.
User :   okay....will do. Also, can a UTI cause an abnormal pap smear?
Doctor :   The commonest organisms causing UTI do not affect the pap smears significantly.
Doctor :   Pap smears are done mainly to check for transformations in the epithelial linings of the cervix, an early feature of tumours.
Doctor :   And unless you have a HPV infection, they are not commonly seen with other infections.
Doctor :   Hence my answer to your query is no.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   I will attempt to get the tests done...I am working with the VA and it is not easy to get anything done
User :   do you know any other reasons my chloride would be low
Doctor :   Electrolyte abnormalities are bound to happen when you are passing plenty of urine.
Doctor :   This is mostly due to this, then a feature of any other illness.
User :   I just wondered if I should increase my salt intake? And wondered if it would slow me down from urinating all the time.
Doctor :   I suggest you to consult an endocrinologist before you plan to get these test.
Doctor :   As I mentioned, since its the increased urination that is causing the salt abnormalities, increase in salt absorption may not be able to help your cause.
User :   so tell me this....these hormones from the pit gland, help the kidney function right? And if I have a kidney infection could it mess up my hormones?
Doctor :   No, urine infections are not likely to be the causative factor in such circumstances.
User :   okay so they aren't related.
Doctor :   Urine infections is one of the factor which is know to cause increased frequency of urination with burning sensation.
Doctor :   However, its difficult to explain this if your symptoms have been almost every day for the last one year or so.
Doctor :   Hence other factors as explained may have to be looked for too.
User :   okay. How much time is left
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor :   You have some more time.
Doctor :   Do you have any other queries?
User :   yes I understand your consult. Another question not related to any of this
Doctor :   Please proceed.
User : nephew 8 years old went swimming with me at the lake....when he got out he had what looked like little warts all over his face....he said they didn't itch or anything, but they sure looked terrible. My sister said it was a virus, but I guess he's been getting these for over a year now
Doctor :   Do they disappear after some time?
User :   usually within two days
Doctor :   Does he have redness along with it?
User :   no they look like white tiny warts
Doctor :   Have you seen a doctor in the past?
Doctor :   * Has he seen a doctor?
User :   yea, and he said it was some virus and should go away within 6 months and it has been a year
