User :   I have elevated ALT and AST levels...not horribly high, but high. I am interested in trying to conceive. I had been taking ibuprofen for my periods for pain (I have endometriosis). Can the ALT and AST levels damage the fetus? How long do I have to be off ibuprofen before it is safe to conceive? (I have been off a week so far). Also, I took some Benadryl and Sudafed for allergy symptoms yesterday. How long do I have to be off those, as well, prior to conceiving?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. here. let me read what you have typed.
Doctor :   please provide the AST and ALT levels.
Doctor :   please provide your age, height, weight, date of last menstrual periods.
User :   I don't remember them exactly, but they were something like 95 and 125 or something like that.
Doctor :   ok.
User :   age 40, 5" 5 1/2" tall, 152 lbs, date last menstrual was July 25 (Sun.)
Doctor :   are you on any other medication for endometriosis?
Doctor :   endometriosis itself can be a cause for infertility
User :   right, I know, but I have 3 sons
Doctor :   what is your usual menstrual cycle length? i mean to ask after how many days gap do you generally get your periods?
User :   I am one of the lucky ones I guess baby-wise --usual cycle length has been 23-25 d
Doctor :   when was endometriosis diagnosed? was it after your last 3 deliveries?
User :   No much prior --- starting 6 yrs prior to 1st ---I was diagnosed in 1994 with stage 4
Doctor :   endometriosis does not cause total infertility, if the disease is not severe, you can get pregnant. So yes, it seems you are one of the lucky ones.
Doctor :   now with your elevated AST and ALT levels
Doctor :   the possibility of the ovulation going haywire is there
User :   What abt the AST and ALT ---would it hurt the fetus?
User :   How?
Doctor :   so the probable dates cannot be predicted accurately
Doctor :   elevated AST and ALT levels can interfere with the FSJ and LH surge and prevent the ovulation, but since your values are not very high, we can still expect that you will ovulate
User :   I do have a little faty liver they found last nov. during a laparoscopy
Doctor :   do not take the Ibuprofen atleast 48 hours before your probable ovulation time which can be between Day 6th-14th if your cycles are of 25 days taking Day1 as first day of bleeding
Doctor :   AST and ALT levels will not harm the fetus if already baby is conceived.
User :   yep, haven't missed any pds, that is for sure! I am hoping the preg will throw me into remission
Doctor :   what was the grade/stage of the fatty liver?
User :   not conceived yet Baby --- will probably try next wed or thurs --have fetility test kit --clearplan
Doctor :   did the laparascopy found any endometriosis implants? if yes, were they cleared?
Doctor :   ok
User :   Not sure on stage of fatty liver ---my obgyn saw it ---I did ck with GI dr and she said it was mild -- I do have aches on that side though sometimes
User :   It's weird
Doctor :   so from today till next 12th of August avoid taking any anti inflammatory medications as this time is your probable ovulation time
User :   yes, endo implants cleared --I also had a L salpingo-oophorectomy
Doctor :   when egg will get released, have intercourse daily or on alternate days
User :   yep
Doctor :   ok. no problems, you can conceive with 1 tube patent
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes, but what is "1 tube patent"?
Doctor :   avoid antiallergens too during this time
User :   ok
Doctor :   and if the pregnancy test kits say that you are pregnant, stop taking them completely
Doctor :   you said you had a 'L salpingo-oophorectomy "
Doctor :   which means that the left tube and teh ovary was removed
Doctor :   so with one side tube and ovary being fine
Doctor :   you still have chances of conception occurring
Doctor :   did you followed what I have said?
User :   yep--in 2008--my R ovary looks good and nice and "pearly-white though, unlike the L that was removed
Doctor :   ok
