User :   Hi i recieved my sons alt levels and they say raised 107 and ast 72 so needs lfts whats this mean please

Doctor :   How old is your son?
User :   he is 11 he is on methtrexate and been on it for 12 months cause he has juvenille arthritis he is on no other meds
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Raised alt and ast means damage to liver.
Doctor :   Are you there?
Doctor :   Does he have any other symptoms?
User :   he had chest pain a couple couple months ago then again a few weeks ago but they said it would just be nothing cause he has ashma
Doctor :   One of the causes liver damages are medication.
User :   i would have thought he would have had to be on methtrexate longer than a year for it to have caused damage
Doctor :   Especially Methotrexate, which can acute liver damage.
User :   so i would be best to ask for the test to be redone straight away
Doctor :   Consult your son's treating doctor also regarding this.
Doctor :   He might want to consider change in dosage.
User :   yes also can you tell me what the normal range is please
Doctor :   what was mentioned in the report?
User :   just said alt 107 and ast 72
Doctor :   Normal value less than 45u/l
