User :   I think I have developed this ailment. What happens is that I feel constant catarrh pressure in my nose but which also manifests itself at the level of my palate. At some stages during the day this even induces nausea. For example, I regularly take vitamin pills and when these touch my palate I tend to gag. Is there anything I can do about this - either short term or long term?
Doctor :   hello
Doctor :   i am Dr here
User :   hello, are you well?
Doctor :   i am fine thank you
User :   Any suggestions?
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender please ?
User :   I am 60 years of age, and male
Doctor :   since how long have you been having this ?>?
User :   I would say for about a year. I always thought this might be a passing phenomenon, but it refuses to go away
Doctor :   is it constant ?
User :   I would say yes, although at some stages it is more acute than others
Doctor :   well and have you taken any medications ?
User :   no. I used to take dimotapp for my allergy, but that is no longer available. Other antihistamines have proved much less effective- and anyway, they made me very drowsy
Doctor :   have you undergone any medical tests ?
User :   no
Doctor :   well you do need to get a diagnostic test
Doctor :   starting with an X RAY
User :   ok
User :   would I go straight to an ENT clinic for this, or could a GP do this
Doctor :   yes an ENT would be the right person
User :   Is this curable in the long term, in your view?
Doctor :   it doesnt sound like a serious condition more towards a allergic etiology
Doctor :   and when we have the right diagnosis you will be treated accordingly
User :   and what, pray, is an etiology to the layman?
Doctor :   oh sorry
Doctor :   it means CAUSE
User :   ok
User :   I am allergic to quite a few things - I took a Bencard test when I was young, and most substances came up positive! However, it has never actually interfered with my everyday business
User :   And would you say that this definitely is rhinitis?
Doctor :   well dont worry once the test is donr you will be treated
User :   I also suffer from a dry cough which is caused by an impression of having "hairs at the back of my throat". Here again, it has never caused any disruption to my everyday life, but, for example, when I try to sing it frequently causes a coughing fit.
Doctor :   i see
User :   Someone I know once mentioned "reflux" - could this be the cause?
Doctor :   it can be a cause for the throat problem
Doctor :   you can do one thing
User :   also perhaps one for the ENT department - simultaneous extermination of two fauna department (work that one out)
Doctor :   please take this medication called PRILOSEC 20MG
Doctor :   1 tab for 14 days
Doctor :   in the afternon
