Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   how can i help you?
User :   well my brother is suffering from hiv +
Doctor :   please go ahead with your query
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   when was it diagnosed?
User :   i want to know is there any dangerous to live with him
User :   cd4 counts 450
User :   came to know few months ago
Doctor :   HIV spreads only by blood transfusion, needle prick, sexual contact and from mother to the baby
User :   actually he is my cousin brother and i live with his family
User :   well i share his room
Doctor :   it does not get transmitted by sharing utensils, sitting at the same table
Doctor :   sharing clothes
User :   ok
User :   what u mean by needle prick?
Doctor :   even wet kissing has not been found to transmit
Doctor :   needle prick is when you are pricked by a needle
Doctor :   that has been previously pricked in him
Doctor :   are you there?
User :   u mean to say if his infected needle even touches my skin will cause me or any problem
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   a deep prick is essential
User :   u mean to say like injection
Doctor :   and that too immediately once it has pricked him
Doctor :   yes
User :   ok
User :   am getting something to know now
Doctor :   ok
User :   any other precautions
Doctor :   you can safely live with him
Doctor :   casually as a room mate
Doctor :   there is absolutely no harm in that
User :   sir is there any difference between hiv and aids
Doctor :   yes
User :   like he is hiv + for past 1 year
Doctor :   HIV is the virus that transmits AIDS. Once a person is infected with HIV he carries the virus latently for several years
Doctor :   the virus slowly destroys his white blood cells (T cells)
User :   oh..i...c
Doctor :   and once the count falls below a critical level
Doctor :   he gets full blown AIDS
User :   is 450 count is good or bad
Doctor :   below 500 the person starts showing some oppurtunistic infections
Doctor :   full blown AIDS
User :   ohh..i..c
Doctor :   starts after the count is below 200
User :   so u mean cd4 450 count is not so good sign to him now
Doctor :   then the person starts getting infections
Doctor :   which are normally not seen in healthy individuals
Doctor :   is he on any treatment?
User :   like sir he anyone infected to hiv +....what will his count at that time
Doctor :   any anti-retroviral drugs?
User :   under going treatment sir for past 6 months
Doctor :   i didnt get you
User :   he is taking
Doctor :   ok
User :   like doctor says 950 count or 450 count
User :   i want to know if someone gets infected hiv +
User :   what will his primary count at that time
Doctor :   it will be normal as in the general population
Doctor :   then with time it starts deteriorating
User :   ok
Doctor :   it can slowly increase with anti-retroviral therapy
User :   so without treatment.......anyone who is suffering for hiv +.......will be alive or die soon
Doctor :   they would die sooner than those without treatment
User :   but sir anti-retroviral therapy is very costly treatment
Doctor :   as they would get infections more readily
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   unfortunately it is
User :   can u tell me exact of this treatment
User :   yes sir
User :   exact cost
Doctor :   there are three classes of drugs
Doctor :   they can be used singly or n combination
Doctor :   depending on the cd4 count
User :   like my brothers is cd4 450 count
Doctor :   yes
User :   how much its costing him
User :   coz he dont tell anyone
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   can you tell me what drugs he is on?
User :   sir i dont know the name of drug coz he keep them in safe and lock the cupborad
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   i cannot give the exact rate but assuming that he is on a combination therapy, one vial costs around Rs.800-Rs.1000
User :   ohh goodness thats to costly for us
Doctor :   yes
User :   sir what is government of india doing
User :   and how can we get the help
Doctor :   10 tablets would cost around that much
Doctor :   and he would need about 2 per day
User :   i think so per 2 tablets neccessary
User :   exactly i see him taking 2 tabs
Doctor :   ok
User :   cant we get any help from government or any from NACO
Doctor :   you can try contacting them
Doctor :   but the help is usually given to those with extremely low dc4 counts like say below 200
Doctor :   cd4
User :   but thats final stage sir and am sure there is no hope below cd4 200 count
Doctor :   yes
User :   so thats unuseful for poor and salary class people like us
Doctor :   i suggest that you get in touch with these organisations personally and find out
Doctor :   as they will give you better information regarding this
User :   which one is good and more sympathy organisations
User :   so i start to approach and seek a help for my brother
User :   any idea?
