User :   Hi, today I was given the results of a ct scan i recently had. I have suffered from pelvic pain, loss of appetite, vaginal discharge and some bleeding. Unfortunately, my consultant was not available, so I saw a nurse. She said the scan showed I had diverticulitis, small kidney calcifications and a bulky uterus but didnt really know what this meant. She is referring me to an incontinence clinic as I have problems with my bladder and bowels, but says no further tests are needed. I feel that as my sister has had ovarian and kidney cancer in her thirties that further tests might be advisable and at the least I would like to see a doctor , Please advise if you can, Many Thanks Deb.

Doctor :   was your periods were regular or not when you were menstruating ?
User :   yes, usually regular
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   you have two entities as does the CT of pelvis found out
Doctor :   one is the diverticulitis
Doctor :   it is related to the digestive system where in there is portion of the intestine which is infected and causing the lower left abdominal pain
Doctor :   also there is bulky uterus which also is causing the spotting and vaginal discharge
Doctor :   the causes of bulky uterus may be thickening of uterus, fibroids etc
Doctor :   since the age is 55 and the uterus is bulky a operative approach in the form of the uterine removal might be considered
Doctor :   also the diverticulitis needs a surgical removal of the portion of the intestine for the definitive treatment
Doctor :   initially a medical management with antibiotic may be attempted for the diverticulitis to settle
Doctor :   you need to consult a gynecologist for bulky uterus and surgeon preferably a gastro entrologist for diverticulitis
