Diagnosed with piles. Is surgery the only solution? Chances of its recurrence? - Online Doctor Chats
Doctor I've a query
How can I help you?
Sure, please proceed with your query.
I recently visited my family doc and was told that I've external Piles so wanted to know the propoer way to handle. He isn't helping and I'm busy as well...
I've been asked to get operated by a surgeon.
Yes. That is the only treatment which can give a relief from piles.
Medication can only help in softening your stool.
And hence prevent bleeding to an extend.
okay...is it cured completely?
On surgical removal, the present issue will be removed.
But if you are asking about a recurrence,
it can recur.
The funny part is I've no issues while stool or neither I've any kind of bleeding...Infact I get more relief while having stool...
You can take steps to prevent it from recurring to an extend.
that's what makes me confused that whether is it really required to be operated?
Yes. It may seem to be harmless sometimes.
But, if it is diagnosed as piles, then it can open up anytime.
Piles is known to be notorious in this issue.
My suggestion would be to get it operated.
Ok...so do I need to visit any specialist?
No. A general surgeon can do the surgery.
General surgeon itself is a specialist.
In case your wish is to visit a specialist only dealing with such issues, then a Proctologist is the person.
Ok..Also, how many days would I need to rest once I;m operated...
You may require a rest for around one week.
Hope your doubts had been cleared.
Is there anything else you would like to know?
I never been operated neither anyone from my family have been operated so I'm a bit nervous...
Yup..it was helpful...thanks a lot...
Ok. I understand the worry you are having.
But, do not be worried. It is a simple procedure and does not cause you much pain.
is the patient unconscious while operation?
You will be able to tell about it confidently once you undergo the surgical removal.
Now a days, a complete general anesthesia is not given for simple surgeries like this.
Or if the surgeon wishes, he may suggest for a spinal anesthesia.
OMG! it means I'll be conscious while being operated...
Do not worry. They will make the area numb first.
Then only they will remove the piles.
You will not know about it only.
Will it pain once the anesthesia effect is over?
Mild pain may be there for 2-3 days occasionally. But, you will be having analgesics ( Pain killers) to remove the pain.
Ok..All this was really helpful...I hope to have this surgery in first week of XXXXXXX ..
Fine. Wish you good luck with that.
Be relaxed. You will be fine.
Thanks a lot...I hope the same.
Thanks for consulting me.
Have a Nice Evening!!
Bye for now.
