the report says "Large fresh left paracentral disc herniation is seen at C5-6 level indenting on the ventrolateral cord surface with extruded disc material encroaching into left neural foramina causing indentation of left exiting C6 nerve root XXXXXXX
the Dr XXXXXXX (consultant spine surgeon ) M S Orth (Fellowship / Training in Spine (Singapore / Germany) has advised C56 - AOR / ALDF OR Nucleoplasty with guarded program
need ur further advise
Based on the scan reports, the prolapsed disc is compressing on a nerve
Depending on the amount of neurological deficits she has
which also results at times in dropping of things, though not always (left arm)
which can be determine clinically and a test like EMG
the treatment can be decided.
she is able to walk and move around, but sleeping is really difficult, as also getting up and down to lie down
We can treat this problem by conservatively by means of oral medications, injectable drugs, spinal injections, physiotherapy and so on.
could you kindly elaborate on this EMG test
Surgical treatment is warranted if there is severe uncontrollable pain, weakness or when there is neurological deficts.
EMG also known as electromyelogram is a neurological test.
It is a simple procedure in which the functions of the peripheral spinal nerves are tested by using low voltage electric currents.
The test is simple and doesn't have any complications.
Depending on it further decision to operate - when and how can be decided.
I would suggest to consult a back surgeon / neurosurgeon
if you haven't met yet.
Spine surgery will be the curative treatment for this condition.
Have you followed?
So Doctor, as you suggest, even if we consult a neuro, spine surgery will still be required, either soon or at a later point in life
The conservative treatment which I mentioned is to keep the symptoms and the condition under control.
It wouldn't reverse the problem
Surgery would be required sooner or later.
It is the only means of curing this condition.
Have you followed?
yes doctor, following to a large extent.
Spine surgery has its limitations.
I would advice you to get the procedure performed by a surgeon who is experienced with such procedures.
In this regards, a back surgeon (who is an orthopedician) or a neurosurgeon would be more qualified for performing the procedure.
I am not aware of the expertise of your doctor,
is it possible if we can try to email the MRI images for some doctor say Dr XXXXXXX and seek advise on immediate medical course
Dr XXXXXXX our doctor Dr XXXXXX is a consultant spine surgeon
He has conducted 4,500 surgeries so far
Then he would be ideal to perform the procedures.
If you wish to take a second opinion on XXXXXXX I suggest you take an opinion from Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX who is a back surgeon.
Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX has experienced in performing multiple spine surgeries.
so how can I take an opinion from Dr XXXXXXX
xxxxx an orthopedician by qualification.
You can post your query and if possible send the scanned MRI films (not just the report) along with the query.
will I need to send an email or do it directly
I shall request one of the customer support team to inform you the process
Do you have any other query that you wish to discuss with me?
no doctor, that's the only issue I had to discuss
do I need to stay online for your customer support team on the procedure
We can end this discussion.
Our support team can call you shortly.
