Detected with high sugar level and cholesterol. Suggestions? - Online Doctor Chats
I am Dr. XXXXXXX
How can I help you?
Hello Dr. XXXXXXX
I needed some advice...
I have been recently detected with high sugar level and cholestrol
219 and post meal 311
want to know what would be the correct level of specialist that I need to consult and next steps on this
May I know your age?
also...how serious is this issue and how much time should it take to come at normal levels if I follow everything
I am 36
Let me guide you regarding the conditions.
Though they are related to life style, they do have a genetic component too.
According to modern medicine there is no permanent cure to these conditions.
They can be controlled in a way that it does not cause complications on other organs of the body.
And that control is the necessary part in their treatment.
Are you following me?
Now, the control has three parts.
1. Medication 2. Exercise 3. Diet Modification.
1. Medication: You will need blood sugar lowering agents and anti cholesterol medications.
For that you will need to get examined by an XXXXXXX Medicine Specialist.
Hope that clears your first doubt.
yes...I was advised to refer a ENDOCRINOLOGIST
They would be prescribing you medicines for both the conditions.
are they specialist in such cases
is there a way to fine a good list of ENDOCRINOLOGIST inxxxxxxx
On the other hand, high cholesterol may or may not be due to hormonal imbalances.
I can help you find a good endocrinologist
I would suggest you first consult an XXXXXXX Medicine specialist rather than directly going for an Endocrinologist.
They would help in checking out to see if any other condition is associated with it.
In case, if it is required, they would be able to refer you to an endocrinologist.
Now coming to other steps for life style modification,
You need to follow a strict regime of exercise- at least 45 minutes daily.
Diet: In general, reduce everything that is white in colour. for example, white rice, sugar.
It is not that you have to stop them.
Just that you can cut it down to half of your normal intake.
how about fruits
You can have fruits. But a general guideline would be to have one fruit a day.
You should have plenty of vegetables and water.
any specific fruits that I need to avoid
You can have every fruits, but limit it to a small portion in a day.
You should reduce, oily and fatty food.
Start using Olive oil for cooking.
Are you a vegetarian?
You will have to increase your intake of Omega 3 fatty acid containing food.
Like sea fish ( Mackerels, tuna, sardine etc)
They are also present in Almonds.
You can also get Omega 3 Fatty acid supplements from the pharmacies.
That should cover most of the part of your treatment.
If you are sticking to a strict and continuous treatment, the levels can be maintained to a normal level within 2-3 months.
But, you may have to continue the treatment and strict regimes through out your life.
Don't worry, it just makes you healthier.
And keeps you in good shape.
Is everything I said clear to you?
yes...Thanks a lot for your advice....very helpful
You are Welcome.
So, next I should guide you for a Doctor right?
Whom do you want to consult, an XXXXXXX medicine Specialist or an Endocrinologist?
I can find an XXXXXXX medicince but need your help in finding a ENDOCRINOLOGIST
I would prefer a ENDOCRINOLOGIST
Also, I am fine with anywhere in xxxx, in case there are any near to this area
