User :   kidney stones which were extracted 2-3 weeks ago
Doctor :
ok
User :   So what do you think.
Doctor :
since he is suffering from disorders like diabetes, hypertension, gout and recent kidney stone extraction procedure the values will not be in the normal range specified as normal range
Doctor :   how is your father now?
User :   Well his left foot is very swollen but he has no pain. He takes Lyrica and Oxycotin and OxyNorm
Doctor :   so it is the oedema of the foot?

User :   Yes
Doctor :
only one foot or booth the foot
User :   Do you think the Lyrica can contribute to the swelling?
Doctor :   yes

Doctor :
lyrica causes swelling of hands legs and feet
User :   only the left foot
User :   he takes 600 mg in a day
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   why was it given?
User :   Painkillers and a mood stabliazor
User :   for his anxiety
User :   Why is it one foot, the left one???
Doctor :   yes lyrica is given in to treat the nerve pain of the diabetes
Doctor :   does he had nerve pain in the left foot?
User :   he says he has pain in the back of his leg, some kind of nerve paiin
Doctor :
yes it is the nerve pain
Doctor :
so only the lyrica is been used in him to treat the pain
Doctor :
why it causes edema is poorly understood but it causes peripheral edema that is documented
User :   No like I wrote abo ve, he has taken and takes Oxycotin, OxyNorm for the kidney pain before they were extracted
Doctor :   kidney pain is different
Doctor :
and nerve pain of the diabetes is different
Doctor :
Lyrica is the drug used in the diabetic neuropathy
Doctor :   also called as diabetic nerve pain
User :   yes ofcourse. He was prescibed the Oxycotin and OxyNorm for the kidney pain and Lyrica by his shrink
User :   neuropathy, you mean the brain?
Doctor :   no it is called peripheral neuropathy

User :   Meaning what exactly?
Doctor :
nothing to do with brain
User :   ok, please elaborate
Doctor :
the peripheral nerves which connect the brain and muscle will be affected by the diabetes and will cause pain
User :   Can the Lyrica damage his already sensative kidneys?
Doctor :
which will not respond to ordinary pain killers
Doctor :
it is called neuropathy
Doctor :
Lyrica do not cause kidney damage
Doctor :
but can cause kidney stone in some
User :   so is there any treatment for that?
Doctor :
for what ?
User :   Neuropathy? His blood sugar levels are satisfactory. He does not take insuline or tablets
User :   After a mean is blood sugar is around 7-9
Doctor :
neuropathy is difficult to treat
Doctor :   which drug will suit whom cant be told
User :   I understand
Doctor :
but the pain of the neuropathy can be controlled with the multidrug regimen
Doctor :   luckly Lyrica is working for your father i suppose
User :   He claim so
User :   It settles his nerve pain
Doctor :
so he is free from the pain and burning sensation, thats good
User :   yes
Doctor :
but the side effect of leg swelling has occured
User :   also it works for his anxiety
Doctor :   yes thats also good
User :   yes it has, are there any more serious side-effects?
Doctor :   as like other drugs there is more side effects with this drug also, but it is very rare to occur
Doctor :   from how many days he is using this drug
User :   6 yrs
Doctor :
oh apart from leg swelling nothing is there than not to worry
Doctor :
other effects like visual disturbance, confusion will not occur in him
Doctor :   to reduce the leg swelling his leg can be kept elevated at night times above heart level
User :   What do you think about the blood work and his various levelss?
User :   Yes he just doing this as we speak, (or rather as we write) smile
Doctor :   some of the blood parameters are not matching with the normal range
Doctor :
but for his disorders and the medications he is on that parameters are in control
User :   The side-effects of the Lyrica, is one suceptable when using the drug or do they accur after use?
Doctor :   side effects do occur when the drugs are been used
Doctor :
once you stop the drug the main effect as well as side effect will disappear in 48 to 72 hours usually
User :   but they don't linger? Not sure if that is the suitable word for it
User :   Ok
Doctor :
no it will not
User :   I see. I have another question for you, its about my sister
Doctor :
ok
User :   She is 32 yrs old. Was diagnosed with Hep C and Cirrohis about a year ago
Doctor :
ok
User :   She has never done drugs, doesn't drinl at all, is a virgin, doesn't have tattoos or had a blood transfusion
Doctor :
ok
User :   She was heavily over-weight but has lost about 30-35 kg in six months. She's 180 and weighs about 82 kg now
User :   She is my twin sister and were were born in Poland but I dont have Hep C or Cirrohis
Doctor :
ok
User :   Her blood levels are very good and her liver function is also very good according to her doctor in Gastro
User :   She also has gall-stones
Doctor :   ok
User :   Treatment with drugs and shots will begin when my sister is ready since she needs to me mentally stable and strong
User :   Is it true that the drugs will make her more depressed?
Doctor :   no

Doctor :
drugs will not depress her
User :   Her doctor in Gastro said that the drugs can trigger a depression
User :   She feels very afraid and confused now, my sister that is.
Doctor :   can trigger but will not cause depression
Doctor :
trigger means when some body is suffering from depression
Doctor :
or family history of depression
Doctor :
with the drugs they might get depressed
Doctor :
is she suffering from medically diagnosed depression?
User :   well we do have a history of depression in the family
Doctor :
can you explain a little bit
User :   what do you mean exactly?
Doctor :
like who was diagnosed
User :   Please elaborate
Doctor :   and how is your sister related to the person diagnosed to be suffering from depression?

User :   Hello?
Doctor :   yes
User :   Its our mother. She suffers from borderline depression, her mother also
Doctor :   ok

Doctor :
so it is first degree relative
User :   Yes
Doctor :
so the chances of she being suffering is there
Doctor :
but it is only a chance not that it will happen
Doctor :
also there is treatment for the depression
User :   My sister takes Zoloft, Lergigan which help her a lot. When she has panic attacks she takes Oxcand 5 mg
Doctor :   ok

User :   She goes to ther psychiatrist
Doctor :
ok
User :   So its all controlled and supervised
User :   But she does feel afraid about the Hep C and the treatment of it
Doctor :   Fact is cirrhosis is more dangerous disease than the depression
User :   She's afraid that she will end up in a even deeper spiral of depression
Doctor :   as i told depression is treatable and controllable
User :   yes
Doctor :   the cirrhosis if not treated will definitely prove fatal
User :   Is the Hep C and Cirrohis dangerous or and life treathening???
User :   She's my twin and we are very, very close so naturally I'm worried about her
Doctor :
yes cirrhosis with hepatitis c is dangerous
User :   How so
Doctor :   cirrhosis with active hepatitis c will cause liver cancer
User :   Should she start treatment immediately?
Doctor :   yes as soon as possible
Doctor :   so not to worry about the depression which has a treatment
User :   she was diagnosed a year ago and her doctor said that there is no need for an emergency
Doctor :
hepatitis c will cause hepatitis
Doctor :
than fibrosis
Doctor :
than little advanced stage is cirrhosis
Doctor :
further advanced stage is liver failure
Doctor :
and than at last it is the liver cancer
User :   so it can expand quickly
Doctor :   since it is cirrhosis further it would be either liver failure or liver cancer
Doctor :
it will take some time
Doctor :
like say 2 to 5 years
Doctor :
but i prefer to get rid of the hepatitis c as soon as possible
User :   I see. Its a little so say the least confusing since her doctor talked to my sister and said there is no rush and that treatment will start when she is good and reay, my sister that is
User :   Another doctor, here in fact at one of my previous session said that it can be very dangerous but it will take a very long time til it turns fatal
Doctor :   the time of starting the medications will be decided by the treating doctor depending on various parameters. even she should tolerate the effects and side effects of the treatment
User :   Even her psychiatrist said that she should not worry that here in Sweden people have the luxary to afford treatment for Hep C and Cirrohis and that other countries such as Poland doesn not offter the same treatment
Doctor :
so doctors will decide based on the parameters when she is fit to take the medications
Doctor :
yes hepatitis c is treatable provided if treated in time
User :   in time which is?
User :   whit in???
Doctor :   in time means before serious complication set in
User :   i see
Doctor :   and the time for complication to occur is variable an it varies from 3 years to 15 years from cirrhosis
User :   i see
Doctor :
not to panic much
User :   ok
Doctor :   its unfortunate she has hepatitis c
Doctor :
but needs to be treated and the drugs can trigger the depression which she is already suffering from
User :   very. I dont know how in the world she got it
User :   yes
User :   thank you for your advice and for this session.
Doctor :   even by the use of personal care items like towels manicure, pedicure items also it can get transmitted
Doctor :
please fill the feed back form
User :   cannot be shared?
Doctor :   the possibility of transmission is there from them also
User :   it is that contagious?
Doctor :   not exactly but a blood born
Doctor :
meaning
User :   i see
Doctor :   any person suffering from hepatitis c get injured and wipes his blood with towel and the same towel is used by other healthy person
Doctor :
with minor cut on his hand
Doctor :
there is possibility of transmission
User :   I understand
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with

User :   No I think it will do for now. Thanks and have I great day!!!
Doctor :

User :   i have'
