User :   My dentist thinks I may have an abscessed tooth because there is "cyst" where I had a tooth extracted almost a year ago. I think it's because I got food caught there and poked and probed and swished with hydrogen peroxide. the x-ray is inconclusive -- The tooth doesn't hurt, not sensitive can eat fine ok when he taps on it and is a solid tooth. My question is: I've had heart burn long before this cyst - cyst has been there about one week. Could my heart burn be caused from an abscessing tooth? If I did have an abscess wouldn'yt I know it. I am 43 years old female.
Doctor :   Can you describe about the heart burn like ?
Doctor :   Burning?
Doctor :   Which time of the day?
User :   It's a burn happens anytime - I thought maybe it is because I work nights and my gi system is screwed up. Hurts most after coffee - cut down on that I have a pretty sensitive stomach anywayhs.
Doctor :   Coffee is a good precipitator of the heart burn
Doctor :   I do not relate the tooth abscess directly to your heart burn
User :   do you think it could be endocarditis?
Doctor :   But an infection can slightly precipitate heart burn
Doctor :   Do you have any heart disease?
Doctor :   any surgeries done on heart ?
User :   family history me no I do take zocor now my cholesterol is good, b/p is good I'm about 10 lbs overweight and exercise
User :   no surgeries passed treadmill 2-3 years ago had because of chest pain wasn't heart it was anxiety
Doctor :   Ok, your risk level to heart reduces if you reduce weight by 10%
Doctor :   the Blood pressure is much controlled more than 10mm Hg by losing 10% of your current weight
Doctor :   The heart burn eases with weight loss
Doctor :   Avoid coffee, peppermint, close fitting clothes
Doctor :   Elevate the head side of the cot by 1/2 an inch at night
Doctor :   sorry when you sleep
User :   so you don't think it is tooth related ? do you think I have an abscess or just a local infection?
Doctor :   I cannot comment on the local problem of the tooth unless I examine it
Doctor :   But the relationship is poor between abscess and heart burn
User :   is it possible to have just a local infection
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   A local infection after cyst is possible
Doctor :   Oral health is related to heart
Doctor :   So dental examination once a yuear is recommended
