User :   I was wanting to know if hpv can actually "die" if exposed to airfor any period of time. I was trying to get information and I saw on one site a girl claiming to have hpv said it was true. I wanted to know if it was accurate.
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here.
Doctor :   let me read what you have typed.
User :   Hello
Doctor :   yes, it is true that HPV virus die when exposed to air
Doctor :   The herpes virus cannot survive outside the body for more than about 10 seconds(although it can survive for slightly longer in warm, damp conditions (i.e. wet towels)), it dies very quickly once exposed to the air.
Doctor :   the person coming in contact with anyone who is having ative blister will get infected
Doctor :   even if a tiniest part comes in contact
Doctor :   with the blisters or secretions from that person
User :   So if someone infected leaves a spot of fluid like say on a toilet seat it wouldn't survive to infect another?
Doctor :   it depends on the time limit, if there is moisture associated, it can survive for longer time
Doctor :   and any contact in such cases can lead to transmission
User :   So if its old or dried it wouldn't? My roommate has hpv and I'm slightly concerned. I just wanted more info but felt rude asking her.
Doctor :   if it is old and completely dried out, it wont
Doctor :   is she having active infection?
Doctor :   is she on traetment?
Doctor :   you can take vaccination against HPV such that you dont get infected
Doctor :   as precaution is always better than cure.
User :   I'm not really sure. She has told me little just that she has it and that she may not be able to have kids.
Doctor :   ok. i would recommend you check your HPV status first by doing blood test, and take the vaccine if you are not infected already
User :   Is there an age limit? And is it costly? I currently have no insureance.
Doctor :   discuss with your physcian/healthcare provider about it.
Doctor :   HPV vaccination can be taken by any girl above 12 years of age, or before sexual activity
Doctor :   you can approach free clinics for the same, they cater to medical needs for people without insurance
Doctor :   please provide your location details
User :   Manhattan ks
Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW Doctor :   follow this link to locate a free clinic
User :   Ok thanks so much for the info and advice!
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with?
User :   I really appreciate it. :)
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
Doctor :   take care.
User :   Thank you.
