User :   Hi: I have a dry hacking cough from time to time, which I am almost positive is air born. It only happens indoors and seems to be related to air handling systems, heaters, air conditioning, etc. When I get the cough, if I go outside for about 10 minutes the cough stops with no further problems. If I go back into the same environment the cough will resume. Along with the cough I get a very slightly bitter taste. I am absolutely tired of this cough! Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Doctor :   yes, you can use a facial masks or nose filters too
Doctor :   if the air in the place , is cold, then this could be the main cause causing brochoconstriction
Doctor :   and this inturn results in cough too
User :   What do you think is the cause of my symptoms?
Doctor :   it seems to be due to allergy to something in the airconditioners
Doctor :   since the air is recycled again, the stale air might be having some allergens in it
User :   The air is not necessarily cold. It can happrn in both warm and cool conditions.
Doctor :   the bitter taste you mentioned could be due to acid reflux due to chronic coughing
Doctor :   ok, in that case, it should definitely be allergy
User :   No I don't think that is the case. I've never had acid reflux under any conditions.
Doctor :   if taking zyrtec works for you, then it would be a clinical indicator of allergy as a cause of your problems
Doctor :   no, i did not mention that acid reflux is the cause here
Doctor :   since you cough too much, there will be acid reflux, and this causes bitter taste
Doctor :   its not acid reflux causing cough
User :   What allerergins are found in air handling systems?
Doctor :   like thermophillic fungi, hay fever allergens, aerophilic fungi, are the most common in Airconditioners
User :   I really appreciate your advice I hadn't considered Zyrtec or the tussin DM
Doctor :   you are most wlcome
