User:Hello Dr my name is XXXXXX
Doctor:How are you doing?
User:Not too good. I've had a cough and cold for a week now, it was quite back till about 3 days ago. I did not want to take any anti-biotics this time, so I decided to ride it out.
User:Though the cough has improved, it has not fully gone. I have congestion in the chest (not throat).
User:I just wanted to check with a doctor if it is okay to just ride it out for a few more days or should I visit a doctor?
Doctor:Have you taken any kind of medication or any treatment at all?
User:I took Vicks Action 500 on days when I had a fever and told an ayurvedic medicine called Koflin for a few days
User:I'm started taking a cough syrup called Cheston CS from yesterday evening
Doctor:How old are you?
Doctor:Also, any other condition like diabetes, high blood pressure etc?
Doctor:then what we need to do is this
Doctor:Take steam inhalation twice daily
Doctor:also, take tablet Cetrizine 10 mg once daily for 3-4 times daily
Doctor:have tulsi and ginger tea
Doctor:and keep yourself warm
User:Ok. I've been drinking a lot of tulsi and ginger tea.
Doctor:you can continue with that syrup
Doctor:but it should be making you sleepy
Doctor:so dont drive or handle any machinery after that
User:A little bit
Doctor:Wait for 2-3 days
Doctor:if it doesnt become ok
User:Also, I don't know if this is pertinent. I'm a smoker (about 10 sticks a day) and I haven't smoked for a week now despite strong withdrawl symptoms.
Doctor:You would probably need some antibiotics
Doctor:The smoking only makes it worse XXXXXX
Doctor:It puts you at risk of such infections
Doctor:and then delays recovery also
Doctor:in my opinion, steam inhalation is the best thing for you
Doctor:It should help a lot
Doctor:since you have stopped smoking
Doctor:you may want to completely switch to Nicorette chewing gum
Doctor:You can take 4 mg version
Doctor:It will reduce your withdrawal
Doctor:and also help otherwise
User:Ok. Infact I'm hoping I won't need that also. This week has been bad with severe headaches and strong urges. I feel if I can go without for another week, I should be able to just give up for good.
Doctor:but bad withdrawal makes it tougher
Doctor:so thats why
User:OK, understood. Thanks!
User:Ok, thank you very much Dr. XXXXXXX I will try that the tablet you mentioned and steam inhalation for a couple of days.
Doctor:you should be fine in 3-4 days
User:Good day!
Doctor:Is there anything else I can help with?
User:Not at the moment. In case I need to get in touch again, how can I make sure that I get you on the chat next time?
Doctor:You can ask for me
Doctor:They'll put you through
User:OK, thanks.
Doctor:Have a good day ahead
User:You too!
