Doctor :   hi
User :   I have a question. The following episode happened to my friend. She was asleep, and her husband woke to her falling off bed, convulsing
User :   she was unconscious and stopped breathing for a short bit
User :   after regaining consciousness she was confused and disoriented
User :   about 30 mins later she was back to normal self
User :   could this be anything other than a seizure in your opinion?

Doctor :   it is seizure itself
User :   she is healthy, 31 yrs old
Doctor :   that is called postictal confusion
User :   so it sounds like a seizure to you as well
User :   should she be on meds immediately or can she wait for her EEG/ MRI in a couple of days
Doctor :   she should be on medication
User :   there is no other medical explanation other than a seizure?
Doctor :   right from the moment she admitted in er
User :   hypoglygemia, hypothermia, allergic reaction?
Doctor :   any reaction can present as seizure
User :   so not necessarily epileptic
User :   her dr suggested keppra
User :   but I recall from school it is usually not taken alone, but within a whole regimen
Doctor :   yes that is an antiepileptic drug

Doctor :   most of the times it will be used as adjunctive therapy
