User :   I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend of 2 years yesterday around 5pm. We've never experienced this problem before but the condom came off inside of me and now Im worried and panicking because its been 24 hours and although Ive been inserting my fingers inside trying to feel for it, I cant feel it or find it anywhere. Im starting to have some mild abdominal pain, what should I do? Im very embarrassed to go to a hospital ER, is this occurrence out of the ordinary?
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   Dr XXX here
Doctor :   Please give me some time to read your post
User :   Hello Dr.XXX
User :   No problem take ur time
Doctor :   May i know your age ?
User :   32
Doctor :   Did the condom as a whole stay behind ?
User :   Yes
Doctor :   Do not worry the condom is made of an inert material, it doesnt cause any undue reaction
Doctor :   it will get expelled by itself by the movements of vaginal wall while walking
Doctor :   i would suggest you to go for treadmill walk or for a cycling
User :   but what should I do to assist in getting it out? wouldnt it being inside for a prolonged amount of time cause me to get an infection? And why cant I or my boyfriend eel it when we insert our fingers to find it?
Doctor :   if it didnt get expelled in another 24 hours , i would consider better to go to ER to be removed
User :   Why am I experiencing the mild abdominal cramps? They seem to have started a few hours ago and I know for a fact that its not due to my menstraul cycle
Doctor :   Abdominal pain would have been triggered by the condom itself
User :   What type of procedure is performed in the ER for this type of problem?
Doctor :   its due to the reflex contraction of the uterus
User :   ok, so is there anything that I can do other walking to assist it in being expeled?
Doctor :   it will be removed using forceps and a speculum it may not be painful
Doctor :   you mean medicine ? no,
User :   No, I didnt mean as far as medication. I meant am I making it worse by inserting my fingers feeling around for it? And You never answered whether or not I am at risk for an infection
Doctor :   Oh , sorry Ya, since its a unsterile condom you do run a risk of infection if you leave it behind for long
Doctor :   But inserting finger will not only increase the risk of infection and also pushes the condom into the vaginal fornices narrow folds
Doctor :   removal of which may take little more time
Doctor :   Hence i suggest you to try it by a jog or cycling
Doctor :   or even better and quick in an ER by a gynecologist
User :   ok so I guess my best bet is to head to my local hospital"s ER. will the doctor in the Er prescribe me any medication to help me to avoid an infection later?
Doctor :   Yes definitely cover antibiotics may be put on
Doctor :   along with painkillers
User :   And You never answered my question as to how unordinary is this to happen?
Doctor :   Don worry the scenario isnt rare
User :   Ok1 am I also allowed to ask U a second question regarding a different sexual topic?
Doctor :   Yes, please
User :   a friend of mine admitted to being diagnosed with trich last year in February 2009. She says that her GYN doctor prescribed her medication to take but her boyfriend was too embarassed to go in for his own diagnosis & treatment so he took her meds. She has been too scared to go back to her doctor about the sam issue so she still hasnt been treated for it and it is now August 2010, what riskd are she in for?
Doctor :   Is it that she didn't take the medication?
User :   No, she said that her boyfriend stole hers bcuz he was too embarassed to go to his own doctor for a diagnosis.
Doctor :   Since its long time
Doctor :   no risk she has
Doctor :   now
Doctor :   if she still has discharge
Doctor :   Then reinfection can be considered
User :   she said that she does still have discharge but we were XXX the disease and it said that trich is a parasite, so she was wondering if it multiplied or has gotten bigger or has spread to other areas of her body than the vaginal area.
Doctor :   No, that is not expected
User :   So are U saying over a long period of time the disease can go away by itself? I thought you had to be treated with medication for an STD to go away?
User :   what do U XXXXXXXX by this is not expected, she needs some direct aswers bcuz she's scared outta her mind and Im trying to convince her to go back to her doctor even though its been well over a year!
Doctor :   since it had been almost more than a year the infection can be expected either completely gone or become inactive
Doctor :   But a detailed physical examination can rule out the activeness of the infection
Doctor :   hence i suggest her to go for a gynecologist for a detailed examination and to be put on medications along with her partner
User :   ok, does the parasite get bigger or spread? and what type of medication is usually prescribed with trich?
Doctor :   They are microscopic parasites they may grow in number but not in size
Doctor :   medication may involve oral tabs or even vaginal tabs that depends on the specialist after examining
User :   I only asked bcuz she said that she remembers that the doctor gave here (8) pills called Metronidazole and they told her to take all 8 within the same day. she said they were 250mg a piece, is that correct?
Doctor :   yes, dosage is usually a single, 2,000 mg dose
Doctor :   there are other dosage courses depending on the severity of the infection
User :   another friend of ours said she had trich at one time also and that she was prescribed the same medication, Metronidazole but they gave her (21) 250mg tablets and told her to take them 3 times a day for 7 days. so we are debating which diagnosis was correct
User :   so are U saying that there are levels of this infection?
Doctor :   The medication course depends on the examination
Doctor :   yes, but not scaled
Doctor :   only determined by examination and more subjective
User :   ok. Thank U Dr. XXX. U have been a great help to both myself and my friend
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me,
User :   Have a great day!
Doctor :   refer your friends for this service ,
Doctor :   bye for now
User :   I will
User :   Goodbye
