User :   I have a slight foot drop on my left side. Probably for at least 7-10 years. I've told my Dr and asked if it could be ALS and he made me walk on my heels which I was able to do. And still can do. Now I see some muscle atrophy. Could this symptom be caused by something other than ALS
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me readur query
User :   Hello
Doctor :   hellp and welcome
Doctor :   Do u have any other symptoms ?
Doctor :   may i know ur age ?
User :   I am 50 now, but this has been going on for at least 10 years
Doctor :   so the only issue is foot drop right ?
User :   yes, I have twitching all over at times, but it comes and goes
Doctor :   normally when u have a foot drop, there will be fasciculations
Doctor :   these are due to individual muscle contractions
Doctor :   and they are not to be worried
Doctor :   do u have difficulty walking , or doing any other issues
User :   No not really, just the concentration of the foot drop when walking and I have a slight limp because of it
Doctor :   In that case Its not ALS
Doctor :   ALS will present with severe symptoms
Doctor :   including paralysis and muscle atrophy and resp paralysis and early death
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   Do you know of any other causes for such a condition? Can sitting for long periods at the computer cause this.
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   definitely
Doctor :   sitting in a same posture, can cause compression of the nerves
Doctor :   and this can cause such issues
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   Yes sometimes I feel really tensed up after sitting at the computer
Doctor :   do u folllow a good posture
Doctor :   and stretch out every 30-45 min
Doctor :   sitting in abnormal posture can cause symptoms like numbness, fasciculations, weakness etc
User :   I don't think so. And no I don't stretch every 30 minutes. I will try that and I guess I need to do what the Doc has been telling me - don't work 12 hours at the computer and work out
Doctor :   that will help u very much
User :   Thanks for the help. Stan
Doctor :   you are welcome
Doctor :   I hope i have cleared your doubts
Doctor :   Are u there ?
Doctor :   Is there anything else i can help you with ?
