User :   Hello Doctor
User :   good evening
User :   i need a bit of ur help
Doctor :   Hi
User :   my mother has been diagnised for cancer
User :   colorectal
Doctor :   Good Evening
User :   she was diagnoised in Jan-11
User :   and was then operated
Doctor :   Oh I am sorry
Doctor :   Please go ahead
User :   a part of the intestine was cut
User :   the infected portion and the operated part was kept out for sometime
Doctor :   ok
User :   it was informed as stage 3 of cancer then
User :   post the surgery, the chemothereapy was started
User :   she complted 5 doses of chemo
Doctor :   Right
User :   and now last month the external part was closed and put inside wide a surgery
Doctor :   ok
User :   two days post which she developed shivering and it was observed that the kidneys were not functioning to the optimal levels
Doctor :   ok
User :   creatinine was high
User :   dialysis has been started since then
User :   now the songraphy reports suggest there is a growth again
User :   in the same region
User :   and they say now its not curable
Doctor :   Ok
User :   though she is fine now, imean she walks, talks, etc..though a lil weak as compared to earlier
User :   ok
Doctor :   Colo rectal cancer over Stage 3 have bleak chances for complete recovery
User :   as in i did not get ur last statement
Doctor :   All is going as expected
User :   but is there no treatment then
Doctor :   The recurrence is expected
Doctor :   probably not amenable for surgery
Doctor :   Chemo and Radiation therapy is targeted
User :   but now since the kidneys are not functional and she is on dialysis, the doctors are not giving her any chemotherapy
User :   so basically apart from dialysis, there is currently no treatment for cancer which is going on
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   The optimal therapy is to be decided by a team of doctors which include Nephrologist, SurgicalOncologist and Medical Oncologist
User :   is radiation an option in this case
User :   can i show the current reports to any doc which you can help
Doctor :   As I said I cannot be a good judge here
User :   as my current set of docs have kind of given up
Doctor :   Only expert Oncologists should be able to take good decisions
Doctor :   We have a facility to take Specialist Opinion
User :   ok, would you inform the customer care team
Doctor :   One of our Customer care team will call you and let you know the process
User :   ok, thanks for your help and i shall await for the call
Doctor :   Yes
User :   thats ok
Doctor :   I am unsure whether as a HSBC employee you have the privilege for free ornot
User :   they can inform me accordingly
Doctor :   So they can guide you better
User :   is there anything else u need to inform me or should we end the chat
Doctor :   Absolutely
Doctor :   the role of radiation therapy is limited in colon cancer
Doctor :   So only chemo is the solo player after the necessary surgical removal
User :   ooh
Doctor :   Since she is on dialysis, chemo is not a good option
User :   so even u saying the chances are bleak as currently there is no known treatment
Doctor :   The current recommendations say only about palliative surgical approach
Doctor :   which will help to prevent obstruction
User :   what does palliative surgical approach mean
Doctor :   just to symptomatic treatment
User :   ooh sorry i missed to inform u
User :   this has been performed
Doctor :   where they can allow the passage of stools
Doctor :   with stent
User :   ok
Doctor :   So what I mean is any therapy is not directed towards killing the cancer cells
Doctor :   The targeted therapy is only to improve her daily activities
User :   ok
User :   and extend a stay for a lil longer
Doctor :   Do you have any specific questions?
User :   no nothing more , just wanted to check for alternatives if any
Doctor :   yes
User :   which u say are very less
User :   sorry to check, but how much is survival time
User :   in such cases
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   Hospice care is given at this stage by Oncologist, Psychologist, Dietitian
Doctor :   Family support should be immense
User :   which goes without saying
User :   but can u draw approx how much time she has
User :   6 months, 1 year, 2 years or lesser
Doctor :   Medical groups say the prognosis in 5 year rates
User :   oh god
Doctor :   According to a standard classification called Duke's, The 5 year survival rate is less than 5%
User :   ok, doctore
User :   thanks for your help
Doctor :   I am sorry about it
User :   yes trying to do whatever possible
Doctor :   But I am sure you know what are your duties now
User :   no no more queries
Doctor :   as a son
Doctor :   Let me know if you have some queries left
User :   it was a pleasure speaking to u
User :   bye
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me
Doctor :   Wish her a goodquality of life
Doctor :   Bye for now
