User :   Hi, may I answer your health queries right noww
w ? Please type your query here...why am I suddenly suffering from a horrible relapse of anxiety and depression after 8 years on effexor 225mg daily. Has it pooped out? Do I need to increase the dose?

Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi there
Doctor :
May I know your age and gender?
User :   Sure I am a 45 yr old woman
Doctor :
Ok.
Doctor :
The symptoms of anxiety and depression are regulated by many psychological and emotional factors.
Doctor :
Only a face to face talk with a specialist can be able to tell you of the possible cause for the relapse.
User :   I understand that but I am really suffering in a way that is pretty extreme even for me
Doctor :   Alteration in the drug dosage would help in controlling the symptoms of the some time.
Doctor :
If the symptoms are severe, you may need cognitive therapy.
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   Our healthcare is pretty poor here- my gp just tells me I'll get over it and that he is unwilling to put me on a higher dose of meds
Doctor :
These medications can cause adverse side effects.
Doctor :
They can also cause addiction too.
User :   Yes- I'm following what you're saying but the connection is slow
Doctor :
That may have prompted your doctor
Doctor :
with his decision of not increasing the dose.
User :   I've been on effexor for 8 years and I have some side effects but nothing is as bad as anxiety and depression
Doctor :   I suggest you meet a psychiatrist who would be better in managing your symptoms better than a general practitioner.
Doctor :
Medical drugs are only to control your symptoms.
Doctor :
The main form of the treatment is cognitive behavioural therapy.
Doctor :
They are useful if the symptoms are severe.
Doctor :
Hence it is better to consult a specialist.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
User :   It is going to take between 6 and 8 weeks to get an appointment with a psychiatrist- I'm in the UK and that's normal on NHS
Doctor :
Ok.
Doctor :
Since the drug effexor is a prescription drug, and the usage of prescription medications is not legal online,
Doctor :
I cannot comment on the modifications that may be needed.
User :   So I will ask my gp to refer me to a cbt practitioner but meantime how do I cope? All my family Inc grandparents have suffered from this so I know it's not entirely behavioural
Doctor :   I shall suggest you other forms of treatment that can be done from home.
Doctor :
You may try these if you find it useful.
User :   grannparents have suffered with this so I know it's not entirely behavioural
Doctor :   Depression symptoms are mainly regulated by environmental factors and not entirely familial.
User :   Ok -I'm willing to do whatever it takes
Doctor :   1. practice deep breathing exercises.
User :   Ok
User :   Ok
Doctor :
2. Mind relaxing exercises that include listening to music, slow breathing and breath counting will help in reducing anxiety symptoms.
User :   Ok
Doctor :
3. Meditation and yoga practises are known to produce good effects in control of your symptoms.
Doctor :
Since I am not familiar with the yoga practises, you can browse the web to find about the yoga asanas that are known to help.
User :   It's hard to meditate with this level of angst but I do try
User :   I try walking briskly every day too but sometimes can't motivate mysef to
Doctor :
I can understand what you say, this is the reason why rehab centre is useful.
Doctor :
Since there are people who can share their experiences
Doctor :
and the method of keeping motivated.
Doctor :
They help significantly in contributing to the better healing.
Doctor :
Have you followed?
Doctor :   Are you there?
