Doctor :   hi
Doctor :
how can i help you?
Doctor :
please proceed with your health query
User :   Hi I have been suffering neck pain associated with headaches for the last 10 years or so, and every doctor I see treats me as if Im making it up or the pain isnt as bad as I say it is
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
how did your neck pain start?
User :   slow onset. I have been in 5 car accidents 2 of which were rollovers in the last 10 years. I was never treated at the time of the accidents
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
and why is it that you did not take immediate treatment?
Doctor :
what all investigations have been done for it?
User :   At the time of the accidents I either had no immediate pain symptoms most likely because of a state of shock or I was uninsured and could not afford it
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
since you have been involved in accidents
Doctor :
the pain could be due to whiplash injury
Doctor :   and the hence the resulting pain.
Doctor :
what all investigations have been done for it?
User :   I have had xrays and an mri done. after the mri they said they found nothing. that was 2 years ago. while i was pregnant this last year I visited a chiropractor for my lower back and while i was there i had my files for my neck sent in so they could do some adjustments. The chiropractor read the report and said i had disc degeneration and bone spurs in the area that was causing me pain
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
so what treatment got done for the disc degeneration and the spurs?
Doctor :
were repeat MRI taken recently?
User :   chiro did sum adjusting which relieved a small amount of pain. Prior i had been to physical therapy for 3 months following my last car accident and that didnt help at all. I am currently seeing an orthopaedic specialist who is treating me as if i am making this all up
Doctor :
could you please provide your age, gender, location, occupation?
User :   Every dr I see keeps saying the spurs and degeneration arent the cause of the pai
Doctor :   i would suggest you to get a repeat MRI done for the neck, to see how the disc degeneration has responded to previous treatment and if in case there is any progression in the disease process. Also the spurs can be seen if there are any that are causing the pain.
Doctor :
so the MRI will help you to prove or disprove the doctor
User :   I am 29 years old, female live in Wausau Wi and I am a machinist/ CNC setup operator
Doctor :
regarding your symptoms
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
so your work also demands lot of pressure and resulting in pain
User :   Some jobs require heavy lifting and others not but I'm sure the physical aspect doesnt help the pain much
Doctor :
i will provide you a link which will help you to see various doctors in your area, and yu can also opt for a second opinion from our panel doctors(superspecialists) regarding your problem
Doctor :
WWW.WWWW.WW Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW Doctor :
once the repeat MRI is done
Doctor :
you can discuss the report with us
Doctor :
or send us the films and we will ask our panel specialists to take a look at it
Doctor :
do you have the pain radiating down the back, or to shoulders or towards the head?
User :   Now I understand there is a huge problem with prescription drug abuse going on but is that any reason why some in chronic pain cant get any relief while in the process of trying to diagnose and correct the problem?
Doctor :
the painkillers work when only pain is there due to inflammatory conditions
Doctor :
the pain when due to some other underlying problem
User :   The pain radiates up my neck to the back of my head and behind my eye. When its at its worst ( about once a week ) it is debilitating
Doctor :
wil not get solved with painkillers
Doctor :
but we will need to find the cause for the pain and then treat the underlying cause which will help to eradicate the pain efectively
Doctor :   ok

Doctor :
and most of the chronic pains
Doctor :
do have some underlying cause for it
Doctor :
which needs to be looked at
User :   Also because of the constant pain I have very large knots on my shoulders
Doctor :
have you followed what i have said?
Doctor :
ok
User :   Ive gotten every word
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
so hence i would recommend a repeat MRI scan for now, which will help us to determine what exactly is causing the pain.
Doctor :   it wil also help the orthpedician who is thinking that you are making up stories
Doctor :
to see what exactly is wrong
Doctor :
in case teh MRI shows the disc degenerations and teh spurs
Doctor :
then the treatment modalities might change accordingly.
User :   what about a discogram? thats supposed to show any tearing of the discs
Doctor :   this will also be figured out in the MRI scan
Doctor :
which will also show other abnormalities of soft tissues and joints and bony abnormalities
Doctor :
discogram
Doctor :
wil show only the abnormalities related to discs and not other structures.
User :   ok but the original scan showed the spurs and degeneration and I dont completely undrestand why they have put no focus on that at all instead trying to say the muscles are the problem
Doctor :   well i cannot say for sure as i am neither seeing you personally nor the films to see what exactly is wrong
Doctor :
and moreover the scan was taken long back for you
Doctor :
now there might be other changes too
Doctor :
so we will anyways need a repeat scan
Doctor :
and compare with the old scan
Doctor :
to see what all changes you have undergone
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   ok. I also have a new problem that started a month ago but am afraid to do anything about it for fear they will regard me as just whining and complaining
Doctor :   what is the problem that you are facing?
User :   I gave birth to a baby girl on 9/11/09 and had sciatica and back labor with her. around 4 weeks ago i started having low back pain that shoots out to both hips and down the front of my right leg only to the knee. It has been bad enough for me to miss work and I have an almost spotless attendance record
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
your symptoms do point to a possible disc degeneration and prolapse.
Doctor :
the best way to figure out what is happening
Doctor :
will be MRI only
Doctor :
so you will need two MRI now
User :   Ok
Doctor :
one for your neck
Doctor :
and one for your lower back/ L.S Spine
User :   I am seeing my primary doctor tomorrow so is she the one I should ask?
Doctor :
sometimes long standing disc degeneration in neck are known to cause back problems and vice-versa
Doctor :
yes, you shuld ask her for prescribing you
Doctor :
both the mRI scans
Doctor :
and then get back to your orthopedician or another orthopedician
Doctor :
with the films and report
User :   ok she is a very good dr and the only one who believes me but lacks the knowledge to help me further
Doctor :
also you could opt for second opinion from our panel doctors by following the links that i have provided earlier
Doctor :
she could definetely do the help of prescribing you for the neck and L.S Spine MRIs
User :   ok I will have to do that
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   do you think seeing a neurologist rather than an orthopaedic dr would help find the problem better?
Doctor :
it will depend on the MRI findings Stefanie
Doctor :
which might need
Doctor :
a combined approach from both
Doctor :
neurologist and orthopedician
Doctor :
or may be one of them
Doctor :
but right now we cannot come to any conclusion as who will be better
User :   Well thank you for your time, this is very frustrating and being able to talk to someone who isnt cutting you off midsentence or trying to redirect you has been a refreshing change of pace
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :
thanks for the compliment. we are always there to help you 24/7
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   No I believe thats all for now. I have the links saved and if i have further questions or need an opinion i will visit again.
Doctor :
sure
Doctor :
and we will be happy to help you
