Doctor:How are you doing?
User:Hello Dr XXXXXXX . good ..
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:Dr this is regarding my 12 year old daughter
Doctor:go ahead
User:She is having problem with her studies.. basically with exams
Doctor:what kind of problem?
User:she comes back saying that she forgets whatever she had learned
Doctor:Is she a very nervous child?
User:not much, but inspite of spending gud time with her studies .. she forgets much of what is learned
User:she is not very focused
Doctor:Do you think she shares everything with you
User:yes .. most of the things with me or my mother, who takes care of her in my absence
User:and her marks are not very consistent.. the same answer sheet will have answers with full marks and some with very vague answers ..
Doctor:Do you compare her with other children, XXXXXXX or does she know that you expect a lot from her?
Doctor:that is a very natural response
Doctor:It happens to all of us
User:no I dont think i campare her with any other chils .. rather i compare her with herself .. she used to be a topper till her 5 th std .. now she is in 7th sts
Doctor:We know some questions well
Doctor:and we dont know the others
Doctor:I think there are a couple of things you can try doing, XXXXXXX
Doctor:First, try and connect with her
User:yes dr
Doctor:She's growing up
Doctor:she does not need a mother so much as she needs a friend
User:yes Dr
Doctor:Second, dont compare her
Doctor:give her unconditional support
Doctor:Third, teach her for 20-30 minutes at a time
Doctor:thats the average concentration span
Doctor:Fourth, try and explore a different method of teaching
Doctor:Use videos, real life examples, games
Doctor:Different children learn differently
Doctor:There's a whole lot of stuff available today
Doctor:Next, make sure she sleeps well before the exam
Doctor:Does she chew her nails a lot, PRiya??
User:yes .. doctor .. she does.... but why does she forget things so fast ..
Doctor:She's nervous
Doctor:Thats why
Doctor:Dont we get hassled when we are anxious?
Doctor:Forget small things when we are nervous
Doctor:So many people, particularly at university level, have a blank out in their exams
User:yes Dr .. but i am feeling guilty of something
Doctor:You can correct it now
Doctor:what is it?
User:she had a terrible fever 2 years back .. which was treated by a DR .. in course of interaction with him .. i told him that I find her hair loosing rapidly .. may be because of the fever and medicines ..
User:but the Dr advised me to have her thyroid checked up
User:I forgot .. now I read something the net which says that .. it can lead to memory loss .. is it true Dr??
Doctor:Thats only very severe hypothyroidism
Doctor:Has she gained some weight?
User:Yes .. she is around 50 kgs
Doctor:How tall is she?
User:Shold be 4" 5'
Doctor:Then she is overweight
Doctor:I would suggest that you see a paediatrician
Doctor:She needs to be evaluated
Doctor:But in all probability
Doctor:Majorly, its the nervousness
User:ok.. Dr .. one more thing .. I feel that is has concentration probles also .. she seems to be in a dream .. i dont know whether she is attentive in class .. but the most surprising thing is .. she was a extremly brilliant student till she entered her 5 th std.. it is very dpressing to see her marks
Doctor:Dont get so worried about her marks, XXXXXXX
Doctor:If she remains a nervous child, it'll be a lifelong problem
Doctor:every sphere will get affected
Doctor:Lets do this XXXXXXX
Doctor:You take her to a pediatrician
Doctor:Get her evaluated for thyroid dysfunction
Doctor:Also, do the things I mentioned earlier
User:ok .. Dr .. I will do the same ...
Doctor:within a month, I think you'll have some tangible results
User:I hope .. thanks a lot for ur help Dr .. wish u a good day
