Doctor:How can I help you?
User:Hell Doctor
User:Hello doctor
User:My son is 6 years old. He keeps getting cold and cough often. Most times, steam inhalation, saline and Bricanyl syrup helps. But this time his congestion did not go with Bricanyl syrup for 4 days. So pediatrician suggested to use Asthalin with the Zerostat device and give 4 puffs 3 times a day. she says, this is safer and effective than Bricanyl. But since this is a Asthama medicine, I am worried, if it is ok to start my son on this for few days, even though he does not have asthama. I do not want him to use this life long. But if it is ok to use for few days and stop once he is ok, i think it is ok. Please advice me since I am confused.
Doctor:Give me few minutes to read your post.
Doctor:Sorry to keep you waiting.
Doctor:Asthalin is a bronchodilator.
User:so is it safe to use for few days
Doctor:Since it is used in the treatment of bronchial asthma, I understand you are bit worried.
Doctor:However asthalin has other uses too.
Doctor:It helps in all situation where there is bronchoconstriction.
User:he has severe congestion and cough and could not sleep in the night
User:i gave steam inhalation multiple times, but still did not help much
User:thats why I thought if I should go for this asthalin
Doctor:I am sure, your doctor has prescribed asthalin for precisely the reason of bronchoconstriction - which is seen in bronchitis too.
Doctor:So I think it is safe to give that medicine now.
User:ok thanks
User:also another question doctor
User:if i start on this asthalin, do I still need to give him the fluticasone nasal spray>
User:or will they both clash
Doctor:Asthalin and fluticasone do not interact with each other.
Doctor:However if there is a suspicion of infection in the mind of your doctor,
Doctor:it is better to avoid fluticasone nasal spray (if it can be avoided).
Doctor:If your doctor did not prescribe fluticasone spray, it is better to discuss before you start fluticasone nasal spray.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:she told to use it
User:but not sure for what?
Doctor:It is a steroid spray that helps to relieve nasal congestion - cold, running nose and blocked nose.
User:she had mentioned there is some fluid in ear and it looks dull
User:i had used this spray in oct 2012 for my son,
User:i had same bottle so is it safe to use that same or do I need to buy a new one?
User:the expiry is in 2014
Doctor:These medications are safe, provided you use them as instructed by your doctor onlly.
User:ok thanks doctor, shall use it as doctor had directed
Doctor:You can use the same one, if the expiry is within the expiry date.
User:ok thanks
Doctor:Do you have any other questions?
User:no doctor. Thanks a lot
User:for your time
Doctor:Before I conclude, I see you have posted a question about the same on my dash board.
User:yes doctor, you can ignore that
User:since I have chatted with you
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
