Child Suffering from myelopathy. Is it curable? - Online Doctor Chats
Any doc online?
How are u, Doc?
I am good, thank you
How are you?
I have a typical case to discuss
are you there?
The patient is 6 yrs old male
and he has started developing myplalathy
I am waiting for you to type
We have consulted a nerologist and as per his opinion, this is a non-treatable disease
and the child may survive only for next 6-7 years
I am looking for a second opinion
I am sorry about that
it depends on the cause of myelopathy
Treatment is complicated
can you elaborate?
if we can treat the underlying cause, then better
if it is mechanical problem in the spine, sometimes, it may not be amenable to surgery
In such a case, treatment fails
The life expectancy is decreased as well
Also, the quality of life is decreased as a result of the progressive disease
it requires surgical decompression and fusion
a difficult surgery
success rate is also low
the motor ans sensory dysfunction that the child faces are debilitating
and...what if the patient develops Muscular dystrophy?
there will be progressive damage
loss of muscle tone
Inability to perform motor activities
difficulty in eating
any motor activity for that matter is disable
the child has difficulty in walking rght now
that is sad
the disease progresses
I am not sure of the exact problem...
surgery is done in most cases
Do you advise for any investigations?
it has to be done often to look for progression of the disease
do you have more queries?
I really do not have any idea how to go about this
who is it for?
It is for my nephew
So the first thing tht I have to do is to consult a child neurologist
thanks a ton for the guidance!
no more queries
thanks once again
