User :   hi, my chest xray says poorly defined opacity in the lingula inferiorly, and a little more in the right base with some probable bronchial wall thickening. heart normal, no plueral abnormality. i have had a course of antibiotics as they say most likely due to inflammatory changes. i have been waiting for 6 weeks and have my follow up xray next week. i am so worried as i am a smoker 49year old female. to stressed to give up but will be soon
Doctor :   Hi
User :   HI, ARE YOU IN THE FEILD OF ONCOLOGY
Doctor :   The Xray findings suggest of Bronchitis
Doctor :   I am a General Physician, I believe I can help you within my expertise and If required I shall recommend a specialist
User :   I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS , BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN SICK. CAN THE INFLAMMATION STAY FOR A LONG PERIOD AFTER A ILLNESS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO THINK WHEN I MAY HAVE HAD THIS
Doctor :   If its due to infection it would get completely get better after a course of appropriate antibiotic
Doctor :   if its due to smoking , yes it may take time
Doctor :   but quitting smoking is a must for the recovery
Doctor :   but it will get better if aided with good aerobics
Doctor :   And your Xray do suggest a clue thats its due to smoking , but not severe
User :   I DID SPEAK WITH THE RADIOLOGIST AND I ASKED HIM IF IT LOOKED LIKE CANCER HE SAID I THINK NOT BUT HE CANT RULE OUT THAT THERE ISNT A LITTLE SOMETHING HIDING BEHIND OPACITY. I WAS A BIT SICK LAST YEAR DIDNT HAVE ANTIBIOTICS THOUGH SO WOULD THE OPACITY JUST SIT THERE
Doctor :   if you have quit smoking its less likely for the opacity to be as it was , would have got better
Doctor :   and cancer per say will surely be associated with other symptoms like blood in the sputum , breathlessness , severe cough , weight loss loss of appetite
User :   I HAVNT QUIT YET THE DOCTOR SAID I WAS TO ANXIOUS TO TRY SO WE ARE GOING DOWN THAT ROAD IN THE NEW YEAR. NO WEIGHT LOSS HAD A COUGH WHICH HAS GONE BUT DOCTOR SAID MY BLOOD PRESSURE TABLETS MAY HAVE CAUSED THAT SO HAS TAKEN ME OFF THEM.
Doctor :   i do not relate the blood pressure tablets related to the xray findings
User :   NO THE BLOOD PRESSURE TABLETS HAVE A SIDE EFFECT OF A COUGH , ITS QUITE COMMON AND AS I WENT OFF THEM AT THE SAME TIME AS I WENT ON ANTIBIOTICS WE DONT KNOW. BUT MY DOCTOR DID SAY HE DOESNT THINK I HAD AN INFECTION CAUSING THIS AND HE WASNT GOING TO GIVE ME FALSE HOPES.CAN OPACITY SOLELY BE CAUSED BY SMOKING IE INFLAMMATION
Doctor :   yes, inflammation could be due to smoking and its common
Doctor :   yes, i agree the BP medication do have relation with cough but not with the inflammation in the lungs
Doctor :   quitting the smoking is the solution and as the opacity decreases as the result of this , the next xray can give clues about the cancer
Doctor :   I am with you , please continue
User :   IF I HAD BRONCHITUS I WOULD HAVE BEEN SICK THOUGH WOULDNT I
Doctor :   yes, but depends on severity
Doctor :   mild bronchitis can go without symptoms
User :   I HAVE GOOGLED LIKE CRAZY AND I GUESS IT COULD BE ANY NUMBER OF LUNG DISEASES AS WELL. OR WOULD THEY NO THAT FROM THE FIRST XRAY
Doctor :   a series of xrays are needed to come to a definetive cause
User :   EARLIER ON YOU SAID WITH AEROBICS WHAT DO YOU MEAN
Doctor :   and do not go on the information on the net they are rather misguiding than helping, you will get more anxious
Doctor :   Aerobics , i mean breathing exercises , which increase the blood supply the lungs and heal the inflammation
Doctor :   also dilate the inflamed bronchioles preventing breathlessness or cough
User :   O OK, I AM TRYING TO WALK AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN BREATHING EXERCISES TO DO TO AID MY ANXIETY. WHAT IN THE XRAY REPORT GIVES YOU A CLUE ITS SMOKING RELATED
Doctor :   Bronchial wall thickening and the involvement of the bases o the lung are the suggesting points that it could be due to smoke
Doctor :   and your history also rules out infection , as you would be sick in infections with fever
User :   I PROBABLY COUGH 3 OR 4 TIMES IN THE MORNING AND HAVE NEVER BROUGHT UP ANYTHING. SO DO YOU MEAN YOU NOW DONT THINK IT COULD HAVE BEEN BRONCHITUS. I HAVE HAD THAT BEFORE MAYBE TWICE IN THE LAST 10 YEARS . IS CANCER COMMON IN THOSE LOWER REGIONS IN THE LUNGS
Doctor :   no , cancer is common in the hilar regions , ( middle)
Doctor :   and its is bronchitis inflammatory not infective as the xray says bronchial thickening
Doctor :   and you have history of smoking , which could be the most probable cause of the bronchitis
Doctor :   since no severe symptoms , i consider it to be mild n the xray adds to this
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me , kindly provide your feedback
