User :   How many times will they take your blood pressure at Military Entrance Processing (MEPS) if you give a high reading and is it possible to request a larger cuff so there wont be a chance of a false reading?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Blood pressure readings can vary, subjected to the position of the individual, presence of stress factor and so on.
Doctor :   The size of the cuff though plays a role in the readings one get, but that is not a significant one.
User :   How much can it distort a reading if the cuff is to small?
Doctor :   only a few millimeter/Hg.
Doctor :   That isn't significant.
Doctor :   If you are wanting to prevent the false readings, its necessary that you are de stressed.
User :   My physical is next week is there anything extra in the short term to help keep my Bp low
Doctor :   May I know if you have high BP problems?
User :   I have had a couple High Bp readings in the past but never diagnosed, I exercise very often and have not been drinking much in the past couple months.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   let me suggest few tips to help you.
Doctor :   1. Get your BP recordings checked a few days earlier- get the readings checked early in the morning as soon as you wake up from your sleep.
Doctor :   Maintaining your cool and avoiding anxiety is absolutely necessary to make sure that the readings aren't high.
Doctor :   If the readings are in the normal limits, then there is a high chance that you will have a normal recording during the physical examination.
Doctor :   2. If the recordings are in higher limits, you will have to repeat the recording the next day to confirm if the recordings were not a false recording.
User :   ok could extra exercise the next few days help with keeping it low? or anything else
Doctor :   3. Persistently high readings can be reduced with a small dose of antihypertensive/anti anxiety medications.
Doctor :   Severe exercise can add to the stress and strain and can increase the BP recordings.
Doctor :   On the contrary, good sleep and rest, keeping yourself cool and de stressed will reduce the BP.
User :   anything over the counter? taking perscription bp or anxiety is a disqualifier in the army
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   yes i have
Doctor :   If you are not a hypertenisve, then just good rest, avoid being anxious will help you more than any other medical drugs.
User :   ok thank you for your time
Doctor :   Hence the best/effective means lowering BP readings is avoiding the stress.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   thats all thank you
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   All the best.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
