User :   Hi, may I answer your health queries ri
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you?
User :   I've been havign a problem today and I'm not sure if it's an emergent situation or if it will go away on it's own
Doctor :   Please explain.
User :   I was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia yesterday morning and I was given naproxen to take for pain and inflamtion. Today since about 10 am I've had significant swelling in my penis that will not go away.
User :   It doesn't hurt it's just unconfortable
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   32
Doctor :   Since when are you having the hernia?
User :   the pain started Thurs night with the hernia
Doctor :   Do you mean that the swelling of the hernia is increased and is not reducing?
User :   The pain is much less today on the medication than on thursday
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Since your present problem is the swelling, can you describe me the location of the swelling - is it in the inguinal region where the hernia is or at the penis?
User :   Only the end of my penis is swollen. I have no idea why. It has been like that all day, and it shouldn't be a side effect of the medication
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   Inguinal hernia is of two types. a reducible one and a non reducible one.
Doctor :   A non reducible one is one where the swelling is present at the base of the penis (where the penis is attached to the abdomen) and doesn't go inside.
Doctor :   This is a semi emergency, as it can cause further complication such as obstruction and gangrene.
Doctor :   If your swelling is located at the base of the penis as described, you need to consult your doctor.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   Yes I understand. The swelling is at the tip of the penis only, not the base
Doctor :   If its at the end of the penis.
Doctor :   it may have caused due to the obstruction of the venous circulation to the penis.
User :   Should I go to the emergency room, or keep monotoring for changes?
Doctor :   This will slowly come down once the hernia is treated.
Doctor :   Though it not an emergency, I would suggest you to consider visiting your doctor
Doctor :   who will be in a better situation to evaluate it.
Doctor :   A physical examination is needed.
