User :   I am having strong, dull pain around my prostate/groin area...have had it for about 3 weeks, but seems to be more pronounced, I was treated for prostatitis about 1 1/2 years ago and the pain went away with antibiotics...I can't tell if I have a hernia, or a bladder infection or prostatitis again...can you help?
Doctor :   hi
User :   thank you for helping me! I am going to see my primary care physician tomorrow...
Doctor :   Dr.xxxxhere.
User :   hello!
User :   Hey Dr. xxx
Doctor :   please give me few moments to read what you have typed
Doctor :   please describe your symptoms in detail.
User :   been having some dull pain, seems to be underneath my scrotum and before you get to my rectum...almost in the middle
Doctor :   please provide your age, height, weight, details of past medical illness and treatment.
User :   like it is behind my scrotum
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   does the pain increase when you cough, sneeze or lift anything heavy?
User :   6'2", 200lbs, 34 years old, take prevacid for GERD and Advair each day 250mg for Asthma
User :   cant really tell...I havent tried to lift anything heavy recently
Doctor :   do you see any mass or swelling in the groin area and in the are of pain with coughing, sneezing or increase in abdominal pressure?
User :   it is just this dull achy was on the left side for much of the time until today it seems to be on both left and right sides...
Doctor :   have you had burning sensation or pain/discomfort when passing urine?
User :   no to both
Doctor :   is there lower abdominal pain/cramps associated?
User :   April 2009 they took me to get a scan of my make sure
Doctor :   is the color of urine changed?
User :   negative, they only found a very tiny benign cyst
User :   no change in urine, but it is taking it a bit longer to come out initially
User :   seems that constipation is occurring more, increases the pain a bit
Doctor :   ok, after the main urine flow stops, do you have dribbling of urine for longer time?
User :   I took some ibuprofen a few hours ago and the dull pain became more mild
User :   thought maybe there was some inflammation
Doctor :   are the stools hard in consistency?
User :   yes, my diet has not been good recently
User :   hard to go the other day, my stool was huge
Doctor :   do you have mucus or blood coming out with stools?
User :   nope
User :   I did 3 months ago, but that was hemmorhoids
User :   wait what?
Doctor :   sorry about the last text
User :   I am a man!!!
User :   thats ok
Doctor :   it was mistake
User :   dont know much about inguinal hernias or prostatitis...I think its the latter
Doctor :   i intended to ask you if after the main urine flow stops, do you have dribbling of urine for longer time?
User :   perhaps a rectal check tomorrow will help the doc
User :   I do start a flow...then it slows down...then towards the end it speeds up again...and I dribble for a while
User :   (urine flow)
User :   I have the urge to go a bit more
User :   as well
Doctor :   ok. you symptoms are more suggestive of prostatitis with the increase in symptoms
User :   its weird, Dr, it seems like the pain is scrotal, but it feels like it is behind an inflamed prostate
User :   prob was last year the doc gave me ciproflaxin
User :   WITHOUT probiotics
User :   and I got c. diff. for 3 months
Doctor :   yes, enlarged or inflamed prostate can lead to pain in teh area behind scrotum
User :   it was terrible
User :   oh it can?
User :   I heard you can have chronic prostatitis
User :   comes and it a bacterial infection? should I drink more cranberry juice?
Doctor :   ok, then this time make sure that a probiotic is prescribed simultaneously with the antibiotic.
User :   exactly
User :   thats what helped last time
User :   when combined with a probiotic it went away (the pain)
Doctor :   also cranberry juice with help more with UTI or urine infections
User :   then in the last few months, the dull pain has returned
User :   hurts more when I sit down
User :   what does it sound like to you dr?
User :   (thanks so much for helping me!!!)
Doctor :   as I said earlier your current symptoms are suggestive of prostatitis
User :   I was concerned about cancer, but they took a tool that surveyed my scrotum last year and there was no sign of it
User :   is prostatitis typical in males of my age?
User :   can it come and go?
User :   and how do you prevent it?
Doctor :   it can come and go, if the problem is chronic and you are having recurrent problems then consider getting surgery done
Doctor :   to have permanent solution to the problem
User :   what causes the inflammation?
User :   prostatitis can be easily treated correct?
Doctor :   any infection or even activation of previous infection (dormant infection) can cause this
User :   hmmm as if an antibiotic didnt run its course...
User :   and the infection remained...
Doctor :   you need to be in regular follow-ups, and see if prolonged antibiotic use can help
Doctor :   even with complete antibiotic course, some amount can be left behind
User :   so you would recommend getting my doc to check me out tomorrow?
Doctor :   what is known to cause the 'chronic' case
User :   antibiotics along with probiotic use right?
User :   probiotics actually helped give me loose stools
Doctor :   and in such cases, then prolonged antibiotic use even after the actual antibiotic course will be necessary to prevent chronic states
User :   gotcha...sounds like I need to be on it longer
Doctor :   and yes, i would strongly recommend you to go ahead with your doctor's appointment and surely get the probiotics prescribed along with antibiotics
User :   is this dull pain behind the groin/scrotal area a common symptom of prostatitis?
Doctor :   it is a common one when the protatitis is moderate to severe.
User :   that makes me feel so much better chatting with you, Dr
User :   what happens after the moderate pain? will other symptoms occur?
User :   :)
User :   45 seconds
User :   well thank you for your help in this session
Doctor :   may be or may not be
Doctor :   it depends on how your body reacts to it
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now
