User:we get the regular cold cough medication
Doctor:may I know what was the doctor's opinion about the cause?
User:which help temporarily
Doctor:Has other conditions including sinus issues ruled out?
User:yes.. sinus does not seems to be an issue
Doctor:Let me brief you.
Doctor:A few individuals have sensitivity.
Doctor:Body is designed sensitivity for self protection; but unfortunately it becomes exaggerated in few individuals.
Doctor:Since the design is for protection, the current medicines available has no irradication means.
Doctor:Off course there are measures to reduce the symptoms which you named as temporary relief.
Doctor:But it is important to exclude other possible abnormal condition including sinus troubles, deviated nasal septum, hypertrophied turbinates or even tonsil issues.
Doctor:Therefore I recommend all my patients with similar complaints to consult an ENT surgeon
Doctor:and get other possibilities excluded.
Doctor:If that is done, adequate protection during cold, preliminary use of antihistamine drugs, nasal decongestants with or without steroid preparations and oral mast cell stabilizers are the available treatment options.
Doctor:If you feel these are not able to control the symptoms adequately, they can explore other forms of treatment including ayurveda and homeopathy.
Doctor:In simple words, the first step is isolating the cause and excluding other conditions.
Doctor:Please visit an ENT surgeon if they haven't consulted this specialist before.
Doctor:Once that is done, you can discuss about available symptom control medicines that I suggested earlier
User:is steam inhalation 2 - 3 times a day a good thing to do
Doctor:plus explore ayurveda, homeo treatment.
Doctor:Steam inhalation is good and natural means to control nasal congestion.
User:even 2 -3 times?
User:a day
Doctor:It has no disadvantages and side effects. They can continue it 2-3 times a day.
Doctor:Is there any other question?
User:what can I do for my son who is only 1yr & 8 months now
Doctor:Symptoms of nasal congestion tend to improve with age
Doctor:however in view of active adenoids they tend to suffer a lot.
Doctor:The ENT surgeon will be able to assess his nasal and oral cavity and confirm the severity of symptoms.
Doctor:If the issues is severe, the might recommend surgical management.
User:ok sure..
Doctor:If not medicines available for pediatric use are suggested.
Doctor:As I said, symptoms most likely improve as they grow above 5 years.
Doctor:So my opinion remains the same, please consult ENT surgeon and take this concern forward.
User:thanks for your time
User:have a nice day
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
