User:Is it possible that a fasting blood sugar test could spike due to large amount of dessert night before.101 big when one month earlier was 95. Ha1c was 5.2
Doctor:Yes, it is possible
Doctor:But it is very much within normal limits
Doctor:You have nothing to worry
User:Ok was just concerned as I am 6'3 255 (overweight I know) -was 275 at time
User:Took blood test for life ins and cholesterol - blood pressure was all normal
Doctor:Both your blood sugar level and HbA1c are fine
User:So I guess what I am asking is should I be concerned about pre-diabetes or another uptick in fasting blood sugar result - assuming this does not happen overnight
User:Going from 101 to diabetic
Doctor:It happens overnight
Doctor:I mean the blood sugar keeps varying
Doctor:but as long as it is within normal limits there is nothing you need ot be worried about
User:So I could see a huge spike in bg numbers?
Doctor:Upper limit for fasting blood sugar level is 110
User:One more question - at 40 - what is reasonable weight I should be trying to get to?
Doctor:At all ages you should maintain your weight as per your height
Doctor:your ideal weight will depend on your height
User:So 6'3 - I should be 180-200?
User:Wow that's a lot more weight to lose
Doctor:Hold on for a moment while I calculate ideal weight for you
Doctor:Your weight should be around this
Doctor:180 or even 190 would still be fine
Doctor:With 175 pounds your BMI would be 22
Doctor:that is in the middle of the normal range for BMI
User:Well thanks for info doc - a little concerned that the bg can jump to diabetic but will stay optimistic on being in normal range now and will keep working on weight loss
Doctor:Go slow on losing wight, you don't have to lose weight too fast
User:About 1lb a week now
Doctor:No, I don't see any reason why your blood glucose levels should suddenly jump to diabetic levels
Doctor:Diabetes is a insidious condition
Doctor:it takes years for you to develop it
Doctor:that is if you don't practice healthy lifestyle
Doctor:if you exercise adequately and eat well, you don't have to worry
User:Ok - so will work to get bg down before next gp checkup this summer - thanks for the info
Doctor:My dear, your sugar level is fine
Doctor:it is a variable
Doctor:meaning the values keep changing
Doctor:as long as it is within the normal limits, you should not worry
User:Ok -thanks - enjoy your weekend
Doctor:a consistent reading of near 110 or above that should be of concern
Doctor:is there anything else I can help you with?
User:All set
Doctor:thanks for chatting
Doctor:you too have a great weekend
Doctor:bye, take care
