Doctor:Hi
Doctor: Please proceed with your query.
User:Hi, my father is 77 years old and has been suffering from Parkinson's disease for about 9 years now. Although he was under medication (Syndopa Plus 2 tabs daily and Syndopa CR 250 once daily) he was having extreme difficulty in movement. Recently, about a month back he has been advised to only take Syndopa CR 250 thrice daily. Is it safe to take the prescribed dosage because I am unsure whether it is too high or in future would it be still possible to increase the dosage?
Doctor:I have read your query
Doctor:I did not get the reason to increase the dose
Doctor:But usually the increase is not too much
Doctor:Give me moment
Doctor:Syndopa CR is a controlled release preparation
Doctor:Let me check if it can be taken more than once a day
User:ok doctor. i will stay with you
Doctor:Yes
Doctor:Its dose should not exceed twice a day
Doctor:For how long has he been taking syndopa
Doctor:Are you thereÉ
User:syndopa plus 1 tab twice daily, 0.5 tab once daily and syndopa cr once at night during bed time. then it is changed to only syndopa cr 250 3 times daily
Doctor:Are the other medicines omitedÉ
User:the above dosage was after almost 9 years til 1 monthback when the doctor chaged to only syndopa cr 250
Doctor:ohk
User:yes syndopa plus is now omitted and switched to syndopa cr. so, is the dosage ok?
Doctor:Initially the total dose is not to be more than 600 mg per day
Doctor:But since he is taking levodopa for a long time I think it appropriately prescribed
Doctor:Personally I feel the dose should be minimal
Doctor:Whatever minimal dose helps controls the symptoms should be taken
Doctor:I also think that the dose can be titrated according to symptoms
User:indeed. one more question: in future i amsur this willhave to be increased. woul that still be possible?
Doctor:For this we need to know the maximum tolerated dose for this preparation
Doctor:Generally upto 4 tablets in a day are well tolerated
User:thank you. would you suggest that we take a second opinion with respect to the dosage? He is also experiencing acute constipation.
Doctor:Yes you may
Doctor:Your father is the best person to know the dose
Doctor:He will know which dose suits him
Doctor:And at which dose the side effects happen
User:thank you very much for your time and guidance.
Doctor:We need to keep the side effects minimal and benefits maximal
Doctor:Thanks for coming on chat
User:good bye doctor
Doctor:Bye bye
Doctor:Take care
