User:Can I expose my partner with std after being on cipro for 5 days?
Doctor:Yes, you can expose your partner to STDs even after taking ciprofloxacin for 5 days
Doctor:because there are many STDs where ciprofloxacin will not help
Doctor:particularly the viral ones
User:Ok also does not urinating after sex increase the chance of uti?
Doctor:Probably yes
User:I have a enlarged prostate and my wife tells me urinating after sex decreases my chances.
Doctor:Yes, urinating after sex can decrease the chances of contracting sexually transmitted diseases
Doctor:particularly in males
Doctor:not true for females
User:If I have been on doxcycline for 5 days and get tested in a week for std chances are it will be negative. I am on the docxcyline for enlarged prostate.
Doctor:You should continue on doxycyclin and complete the course
User:Like I noted earlier was on cipro for 25 days prior and symptoms did not go away got worse. Doxcycline seems to be slowly working.
Doctor:the enlarged prostate is unlikely to be due STD
Doctor:in that case it seems to be Chlamydial infection
Doctor:get yourself tested for STDs
Doctor:particularly Chlamydia
User:Had enlarged prostate prior to feeling frequent urination symptoms and sore testes.
Doctor:Frequent urination is a symptom of enlarged prostate
User:could this just be timing? Pros titis?
Doctor:It can be a contributing factor in making your symptoms worse
Doctor:Seems like it
Doctor:Get the STD test done
User:Stated earlier two days before being prescripted cipro had unprotected partner.
Doctor:and also get a urine culture and sensitivity done
Doctor:I do remember that
User:What is that for?
Doctor:That is because, frequent urination can be caused by both enlarged prostate and urinary tract infection
Doctor:And the bacteria may be resistant to ciprofloxacin
Doctor:so if it is urinary infection, and the bacteria is resistant to cipro, doing a culture and sensitivity will help us to pick the right antibiotic
User:Ok so even doxcycline might not be right symptoms are slowly getting better but I think my anxiety isn't helping.
Doctor:It is best to get a urine culture and sensitivity done before starting any medicines
Doctor:and anxiety makes everything worse
User:Wonder why my mud didn't request those tests
User:Doctor not mud
Doctor:I am not sure why he didn't
Doctor:That is the standard
Doctor:It is not logical to prescribe antibiotics without proper diagnosis and culture reports
Doctor:should be avoided as much as possible
User:Do walk in clinics do these tests?
Doctor:they do
User:Ok thanks again for your time.
Doctor:is there anything else ?
Doctor:You are most welcome
Doctor:have a good evening ahead
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me
Doctor:Take care
