User :   I am having ct enterocylsis tomorrow, but letter says no prep why?
Doctor :   hello
User :   hi
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender please
User :   f 59 yrs
Doctor :   can you tell me the reason for the procedure ?
User :   abdo pain in lower right area, approximates to appendix
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   were you informed in detail about the procedure ?
User :   no, but when I called I was told no tubes would be used, but to be at hospital 1 hour before procedure
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   let me explain you then about the procedure
Doctor :   so you have a clear idea
User :   ok thanks
Doctor :   no problem
Doctor :   well in this procedure the health care provider will insert a tube through your nose or mouth into your stomach and into part of the small bowel. Contrast usually barium and air flow through the tube, and x-rays are taken.
Doctor :   as the procedure is going on
Doctor :   The x-ray images appear on a monitor similar to a television screen in "real time," which means they are seen as the contrast is actually moving through bowel structures.
User :   I understand that, but surely there is some prep involved?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   A clear liquid diet is suggested for at least 24 hours before the test.
User :   well, I wasnt told that the letter clearly states no prep
Doctor :   also many physicians prescribe Laxatives to make sure the bowel is clear of any particles that might interfere with the study.
User :   thats what I finf confusing, I have had no prep at all
Doctor :   Medications, including narcotic pain relievers, which slow down the digestive system, may need to be stopped on or before the day of the exam. AND its IMPORTANT that you discuss your medications with your physician before stopping them
Doctor :   you should call up and please do confirm it
User :   well, it looks like thats not the procere Im having, what else could they do thats does not require prep?
Doctor :   any procedure where then will be looking inside your abdomen will require prep
Doctor :   unless they want to do a X ray or a ultrasound
User :   thats what i thought
User :   no, the letter clearly states I am to go to CT
Doctor :   its always better to please do call them and confirm
User :   I will Thank you
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   take care of your self
