User :   2 days ago while sparring in boxing I was punched in the stomach and was winded from it. Since then I have been experiencing extreme discomfort/abdominal paint under my right rib, the pain intensifies at night and I can't sleep due to the pain. Theres no brusing but the area right under my rib is all tender. What can I do to ease the pain or speed up healing
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   22
Doctor :   Do you have fever, vomiting?
User :   nope
Doctor :   Can you describe the nature of the pain?
User :   its a burning sensation that runs across the front of my floating rib
User :   it hurts more when im laying down and also causes me to take shorter breathes
Doctor :   Does the symptom get worse when you try to move your back or bend down.
User :   nah the sympton gets worse if i take a deep breath
User :   or lay on my back
User :   actually.. if i arch my back it feels worse
Doctor :   Do you have the tenderness/pain over the ribs also?
Doctor :   Have you tried any medications?
Doctor :   Have you seen a doctor following the injury?
User :   the pain comes more from underneath the floating rib
User :   i have tried voltaren and pain killers but they havent worked
User :   i havent seen a doctor yet
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   Since your symptoms are following an injury,
Doctor :   the pain and discomfort may have occurred due to muscular injuries.
Doctor :   However, the possibility of internal abdominal injuries can only be ruled out be examination and evaluation (which can include the use of ultrasound scans)
Doctor :   I would suggest you to consult your local doctor for examination to rule out the later cause.
Doctor :   In the mean time, I suggest these measures.
Doctor :   1. Adequate bed rest.
Doctor :   2. Hot water fomentation over the affected site, (do not apply too much pressure over it)
Doctor :   3. Continue with the pain killers (tab ibuprofen 400mg twice a day) along with tab prilosec OTC one tablet a day for the next 3 days.
Doctor :   4. Avoid hot and spicy food.
Doctor :   5. And lastly to consult your local doctor for examination.
User :   thank you
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   so what kind of abdominal injury would be possible
Doctor :   One needs to rule out minor injuries of the liver or possible intraabdominal blood collections.
