Bruised upper arm after an accident. Need medical attention? No swelling - Online Doctor Chats
How can I help you?
Good Afternoon Dr. I met with a minor accident this morning as the rickshaw I was travelling braked suddenly and I banked my arm into one of the rickshaw bars. The area in my upper arm is now black and blue. What first aid should I give myself. Do you think I need to see a doc.
I am sorry to know that you had met with an accident today.
I would like to know some specific details about the injury to be in a better position to guide you.
Are you able to move your arm without any pain?
Is there any wounds near by the area?
Yes, I am able to move my arm. There are no open wounds. The injured area is right in the middle of my upper arm on the muscle area.
yes it is.
Ok. I will guide you regarding this.
Bruise occurs when there is a leakage of blood from the superficial blood vessels to the tissues under the skin.
Is the site causing pain on touch?
Yes quite bad
Is there an increasing swelling?
No. I had applied some ice after the injury
Great. That is the first aid required to stop the bleeding internally.
Should i continue to apply ice or do I need to give hot compresses now.
Hot compress you can start applying by evening today.
The leaked blood takes time to get removed from the site.
so all I need to do is put hot compresses and some volini
Though the blood gets removed, staining remains for around 7-10 days.
I will explain about it.
When you apply cold, the blood vessels become narrow, to maintain the temperature there to normal. And hence will cause the bleeding to stop.
Once bleeding stops, the repair works starts immediately.
After few hours, you can apply heat to increase the blood flow there. That way it removes the swelling and damaged material from the site.
Have you followed?
So do not worry. It just takes a few days time to get over the stain.
o.k. thank you very much.
Rest of the things, you are doing exactly as it is needed.
Is there anything else I can help you on?
Thanks for consulting me.
Have a nice day!!
Bye for now.
