User :   i had a bowel movement where the color was normal (consistency on the watery/soft side - no pain when releasing) but saw a black spot. i know this was a bit extreme, but i picked at it and it had the texture of some sort of skin- could this be undigested food from a while back?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read ur query
Doctor :   can u please mention your age weight , height and occupation for the record ?
Doctor :   also can u mention if u had any blood in the stools ?
User :   age 22, weight around 190 lbs. and i'm a student
User :   no i don't think i've seen any blood
Doctor :   may i know more about the size , shape of the black spot ?
User :   shape was like roundish/squarish and it wasn't tiny, it was about 1/3 or 1/2 size of a coin
User :   i could rip it after i washed it under the faucet
Doctor :   In that case, the best way to analyse would be a stool examination
Doctor :   was the appearance that of a fibre ?
Doctor :   or a food remnant ?
User :   well it almost looked like the skin of a pepper or something
User :   very thin
Doctor :   ok
User :   easily ripped
Doctor :   In that case i dont think there is anything to worry about
User :   it was dark colored nonetheless
Doctor :   that would have been something u ate sometime back
Doctor :   if u have similar episodes anytime again, make sure that u get a stool examination done to check that out.
Doctor :   if u have no pain, bleeding in stools, malaise, nausea, vomiting etc, then u can relax
User :   i think i have had it happen before, it was red once but it was the same consistency/texture and i assumed it was pepper
Doctor :   You are young and as such there is nothing to be worried about with the current symptoms as they are insignificant and not serious at all
Doctor :   fibrrous remenant of salads, or other foods can be excreted in that manner
User :   well about 3 or 4 months back back i went to the doctors with discomfort in my right side (tense) with bloating and gas and he ordered a bunch of blood tests, an ultrasound, he checked my liver enzymes and my kidney (urin) and everything came back normal
Doctor :   in that case, as i had mentioned earlier, you are free of any serious conditions and u need not worry at all
Doctor :   In case, you still have doubts, you can get a stool examination, to rule out other issues
User :   alright. what else could cause something that looks like food-ish skin (and shape) and can rip easily?
Doctor :   there is nothing else which can present in this form
Doctor :   the main alternative would be worms (tapeworm parts) which seem the most likely, if u have associated symptoms like loss of weight, abd distention, loss of appetite, etc
Doctor :   this is also confirmed by a stool examination for ova & cysts
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   wow!
Doctor :   have u followed my comments ?
User :   yes, sorry. tapeworms is something i would not have thought of
User :   i tend to have a lot of acid reflux and a bit of stomach uneasiness but i always associated it IBS or something of the sort.
Doctor :   acid reflux could be due to gastritis
Doctor :   but it presents with burning and discomfort , appetite changes, etc
User :   another doctor that i talked to on healthcare magic suggested it could be gastritis as well
Doctor :   but gastritis, does not present as the changes u have in stools
User :   it would cause changes in stools?
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   it does not
Doctor :   i hope i have answered your query
User :   yes thank you!
Doctor :   HI
Doctor :   Are u back
User :   yes i just wanted to see what you said, my minutes ran out
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   i hope i have answered your query
User :   yes, thank you. but if you don't mind another area that i have been trying to talk to a doctor about... would you happen to know anything on ADD/ADHD?
Doctor :   please proceed
User :   this is a personal matter, but i had parents that never accepted ADD/ADHD as legitimate and thus never allowed me to get tested for it. since i can remember, i have an incredibly difficult time focusing on anything. i haven't read a book entirely since i was a teenager; whenever i begin to read i start wandering to the end of the paragraph without actually reading anything and giving up quickly. i tend to have trouble sitting still in movies/in general.
User :   more so though, i have trouble focusing and forming concrete thoughts. i tend to start one thought and it just goes blank and i start another one
User :   i also tend to mix words up and letters in words up
Doctor :   this is in no way any featuree of ADHD
Doctor :   It could just be lack of interest in the related topics
Doctor :   how are ur grades at school ?
Doctor :   are u finding it hard to study ? Do u move about in the class sessions disturbing around ?
User :   well i'm actually doing my Master's degree now, but every bit of work that i do, especially readings, is difficult in that i have to read the same thing over 4 times before i actually read it entirely. i find it unbelievably hard focusing on something and finishing something that i started
User :   i have a terrible history of anxiety as well... particularly having panic/anxiety attacks
Doctor :   have u been to counselling sessions before ?
Doctor :   are u taking any medications ?
User :   i went to a psychiatrist once and she diagnosed me with obsessive compulsive disorder and i was on prozac for some time
Doctor :   did that help ?
User :   but it didn't ever seem to help
User :   i still had trouble focusing
Doctor :   ADHD is more commonly seen in adolescents and not in young adults
User :   could it be that i just was never diagnosed? i honestly feel a bit the same as when i was in grammar school... like not realizing that i'm staring outside and missing about 5 minutes of a lecture without really realizing it.
Doctor :   In your case, it could be plain elevated hormones or distractions that affect your work , which u should get trained to ignore and concentrate on the work at hand
Doctor :   if u strongly feel, then u can get evaluated by your GP, who can examine and counsell you and if needed get some tests like EEG (done to rule out absence seizures, etc)
User :   absence seizures?
Doctor :   staring and missing time while in class are features of absence seizures
User :   ah alright
User :   can a psychiatrist do this as well? i'm thinking of going off to a private one
Doctor :   yes , he can
Doctor :   i hope i have solved your query
User :   yes thank you so much, really
Doctor :   u r welcome
Doctor :   please leave your feedback as u log out
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
