Doctor :   Hi,
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Not at al
User :   Hope it isnt too late for you
User :   Thanks much..
User :   Had a quick question, I ran a blood test recently and came back with abnormally high numbers on my THS..
User :   I'm currently consulting with another doc to bring this under control..but wanted to hear another opinion
Doctor :   Sure , can you elaborate on the test name and the reading
Doctor :   So , It is TSH not THS
User :   It's a Thyroid test.. I came back with a reading of 45
User :   which i know is abnormally high
User :   oops...sorry...
Doctor :   If you are sure about the reading being 45 then it is really very high and its very rare to see such a reading
Doctor :   i would ask you to repeat the test along with T3 and T4 once again and proceed base on the readings seen in new set of tests
User :   Yes, I'm very sure... I got the reports today.. The funny thing is, I've been doing yearly master health checks and my TSH has always been boderline.. But in the last two weeks I have started bloating up, tongue swelling, muscle fatigue and hence went for a test
User :   Yes, that is what my doc has advised me as well..
User :   I will be going for another test this week. But wanted to know why the sudden spike? Is it coz of something I did? I know that this bloating tongue swelling and all started 2 weeks ago
User :   when I took a tab called Auyrslim from Himalaya
Doctor :   Such reading can be seen in hypothyroidism of severe intensity. Such a sudden rise is unexpected
Doctor :   I do consider it could be a printing mistake or a false lab analysis
User :   But is it possible or is it something wrong with the way the test was done?
Doctor :   Yes, these could be the symptoms of Hypothyroidism
User :   In these two weeks I've put on almost 10kgs weight... My tongue has been swelling till I can barely talk.. Face swelling.. And muscle the extent of not being able to stand
Doctor :   but still i would consider the TSH rise only if it is cross checked
User :   I ran a complete fasting blood test and all tests are within range, except my TSH
Doctor :   If you see TSH rise then T3 and T4 should be on the much lower side
User :   and on Saturday when I checked with my doc.. My BP was rather high.. It read something on the lines of 130/100
Doctor :   Yes, right
User :   So it makes sense to get another test done before I start treatment?
User :   yes, my doc advised me to get another test.. A TSH with a free T4 test..
Doctor :   Yes, he is right
Doctor :   You may have to start with thyroid hormone supplements
User :   But if the tests come back the same, what are the options I'm left with?
User :   But will this be a lifelong thing? Is there a permanant cure?
Doctor :   Depends on the cause .The cause can be determined on its response to the medications and detailed physical examination
User :   Also, after I gave these tests on Sunday. I've had some good rest over the weekend and feel much better now. Is it possible that this is a kickback or some reaction and this will go away if I maintain a good diet and excercise?
Doctor :   yes, it could also be as you think
User :   The reason, I ask is... I follow a very disciplined life and know that my TSH has always been borderline... But this sudden spike in TSH in the past two weeks has gotten me alarmed
Doctor :   I am unaware of such reaction causing sudden rise in TSH
User :   So it's possible that it is a reaction?
Doctor :   I strongly suspect it to be laboratory failure
User :   Hmm...
User :   has there ever been a history of hyper thyroidisim being controlled without medicines?
User :   That is a relief Doctor :-)
Doctor :   Yes, with good dietary practices and exercise. But with very high TSH medications are must
User :   I'm going to get another test done in another lab either tomorrow or day after...
Doctor :   Yes,
User :   But, I must say, that I'm already feeling better...Swelling has reduced and my muscles are not hurting or that tired anymore
Doctor :   and such a fast recovery is rarely seen in any kind of hypothyroidism
User :   So let's hope the tests read better this time..
Doctor :   DO not be worried
Doctor :   And you are welcome
User :   Thank you for your time Doc..
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me
Doctor :   ok , take care
Doctor :   Wish you good health
Doctor :   Bye
User :   Thank you Doctor... Was very worried when I saw the reports today...
User :   Thank you for taking the time to explain...
User :   You do the same..
User :   Bye..
