User :   Hi, I have 10 week old baby girl and I have just noticed on her left arm that there is an area of very fine blood blisters, almost like very tiny freckles. There also appears to be a small bruise not even 1/8"x1/16" on her forearm. Last night she was quite distressed, which I thought may have been bowel movement related, yet I gave her 5ml non-alcohol gripe water and 0.5ml tylenol - after 20 minutes she eventually settled. Today, still now bowel movement. I have breastfed twice this morning but she has started to feel uncomfortable - quite similar to last night. Could the blood blisters be a sign of distress or is it unrelated? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.
Doctor :   hello
User :   HI there
Doctor :   give me a min please. let me go thru your query
User :   Dr Oberoi - pleased to meet your acquaintance
User :   ok
User :   oh, she had pyloric stenosis surgery when she was just over 1 month old - there was some trouble attempting to draw blood and insert the IV. Is this relevant?
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   well the minute blisters you are talking about is nothing to worry about
Doctor :   and are quite common seen in babies which will subside on its own
User :   why did they appear overnight?
User :   I do not think it is rash, so what is the medical term for it?
Doctor :   these are called as strawberry hemangiomas
Doctor :   They consist of an abnormally dense group of widened (dilated) blood vessels. They appear on the surface of the skin as red-blue spongy masses
Doctor :   and they are rapid in onset
Doctor :   Strawberry hemangioma are often not treated. When they are allowed to disappear on their own, the result is usually normal-appearing skin.
Doctor :   so today there is no bowel movement ?
Doctor :   is your child still in distress ?
Doctor :   I have to close the window as you are not responding. Please chat with our doctors 24/7 for medical queries.
