Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
How can I help you?
User :   Hello, just one second. I am typing out my question...
User :   I am conducting a study regarding the lethal affects of barbiturates. I was able to gather info regarding patients differing by age, weight, and medical condition. All of the date gathered as been on elderly patient over age 50 who weigh more than 170 pounds and have some type of cancer. But I am unable to find info regarding younger patients with no medical condition.
User :   Take this scenario: Doctor :
Let me read it
Doctor :
What is your query
User :   A 19 year old male weighing approximately 160 pounds orally ingests 12 grams of pentobarbital solution. What is length of time unconsciousness to occur? What is the length of time for death to occur? Any other symptoms? What would be the case if a 30 year old male with no medical condition and the same weight ingested the same amount?
Doctor :
Actually these are difficult questions for me to answer as I am only a General Practitioner. If you accept I can only give my opinion
User :   Go ahead
Doctor :   As far as I know you cannot say the exact time, it all depends on the metabolism of the barbiturates in the person and it differs on various factors
Doctor :
Body fluid, Kidney function, Liver function, Age, Weight and any other medications if on
User :   Well, from what I understand pentobarbital is a short-acting barbiturate. So the time of unconsciousness to occur wouldn't be more than 20 minutes?
Doctor :
Phenobarbital has the least lipid solubility
User :   right
Doctor :
so less distribution
Doctor :
in the body
Doctor :
Seco has the largest
User :   i think pentobarbital has the second highest
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :
Actually you questions are more directed to a Pharmacotherpist
User :   Hmm...this is my last you have a Pharmacotherapist on staff?
User :   I don't mind talking with you, if that is my only option
Doctor :
User :   okay
Doctor :
This is mainly for patients
Doctor :
and not for studies
Doctor :   so we do not hire pharmacotherapist
User :   i understand.
Doctor :
I can give you an option
Doctor :
of asking an Emergency physician
User :   yes, that would be fine if possible.
