Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi doctor
User :   I have a question
User :   Is it safe to let baby fall on mattress frequently?
User :   My baby is 9 months old, and is practicing sitting up by himself
Doctor :   what is the age of the baby
Doctor :   Ok that is fine at that age
Doctor :   Make sure that the mattress is soft
User :   He practices it on his baby mattress
User :   is it considered a soft mattress?
User :   It's not as soft as a quilt
Doctor :   Yes it is soft
User :   Yesterday, he was lying in his cot
User :   and practicing sittig up
User :   about the half way, he fell backwards
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Did he hurt
User :   and almost immediately, he sitted up again, and fall back again
User :   and he did it a third time
User :   so, three falling back in a sequence
User :   He didn't cry
Doctor :   Ok that is Ok
Doctor :   I do not think he is hurting himself
User :   I am a bit concerned about his brain might be shaked
User :   I can see when he fell onto the mattress, his head bounced a little bit
User :   But I didn't stop him immediately
User :   because I don't know is it good to stop him or not
User :   on one hand I want him to have practice
Doctor :   You are doing the right thing
User :   on the other hand, I don't want his head be bumped so frequently
Doctor :   let him experience the physics
User :   So, you think I should let him practice, and ignore these fallings?
User :   these fallings won't hurt him?
Doctor :   Not a problem, just be on his side
Doctor :   You can add an extra cushion with a pillow if you are too concerned
Doctor :   The next thing is you can direct him to fall on back
User :   how to?
User :   I think he fell back on his head
Doctor :   while he falls, you can shift his body in the air so that he falls on back
User :   so, you mean catch him in half way?
Doctor :   Still this is an extra layer of safety, otherwise what ever you described is not going to hurt him
User :   ok, I think I will try to add a cushion
User :   yesterday, when he fell backwards, I saw his head bounced a little bit on the mattress
User :   would it cause his brain shaking a bit?
Doctor :   That is Ok
Doctor :   it will not cause any brain damage
User :   I am always scared of shaking baby things
Doctor :   or have problem in development
User :   and he fell in a sequence, still no problem?
Doctor :   If he is hurt, he cries
Doctor :   and he will not try
Doctor :   again
Doctor :   that conscious is developed in the baby by this age
Doctor :   It would not cause problem
User :   ok, reassured, but I think I will still add an extra cushion
Doctor :   It is upto you
User :   thank you doctor.
Doctor :   Pleasure here
Doctor :   THank you for consulting me
Doctor :   Bye for now
User :   bye
