Appendicitis. Surgery? When should I undergo the same? - Online Doctor Chats
welcome to XXXXXXX
I have a question regarding appendicitis
SURE, PLEASE PROCEED
how do I determine if the surgery is required or not and when should I undergo the same?
As of now 2 USGs were done, one reported appendicitis and other said none. I am little confused now and the consultant Dr. suggested to visit a surgeon
the need for surgery depends on the severity of the symptoms, your medical condition and the findings on the uLTRASOUND or the CT scan
which was the recent scan ? and what was the findings of the recent one ?
one sec...let me type the exact wordings
No USG detectable tender tubular SOL or localised fluid collection is seen. Possibility of recurrent / chronic appendicitis to be correlated clinically & other investigations as indicated.
is that it ?
Well...we have "Both Kidneys", "Urinary Bladder" etc etc
Do u happen to have any symptoms or clinical issues ?
well it's for my wife and no she didnt have such symptoms etc
and how often does she have it ?
on a daily basis , and does it affect the regular daily activities ?
she have a mild pain through out the day
and no it doesn't affect the daily activities
in that case, she might be having a chronic appendicitis
first , to determine if surgery will help or not, you may consult a General surgeon, who can examine you
he might opt for a CT scan, if needed , to know the exact condition
if the CT shows major abnormal changes, then surgery may be opted for
or else, he will advice you for a medical management
ok and what's medical management ?
it is with medicines (antibiotics)
ah, thanks Dr.
You are welcome
one last question
I was told that if the surgeon suggest surgery then there are 2 ways for a appendicitis surgery etc
can you please help me with that
open surgery is usually when the condition is complicated, and extent of involvement is more
but in general , laparoscopic surgery is done , in most cases
thanks much Dr.
laparoscopic surgery, is done using a small camera introduced via 3 small holes in the abdominal wall, hence causes less discomfort and less scarring . BUT open surgery causes severe scarring
the surgeon, will decide to go for the type of procdure needed
sure and thanks again
