Doctor :   how can i help you
Doctor :   proceed with your 1query
Doctor :   are you there
Doctor :   are you there
User :   I was inquiring a moment ago about using ativan to keep my blood pressure under control. I only want to use this while my lifestyle changes take effect. I have lost 5 pounds so far, I drink distilled water with lots of sea minerals added, i take dandelion root for water retention. I do not want to take the inderal that I was on for about 5 years. I stopped taking it completely a couple of weeks ago and substituted chinese herbs for blood presure control. I think I took too many because I was in the ER with 132 heart rate and BP of 160/100. I believe my blood pressure is anxiety related only as it came about as I was having several major changes in my life. I live now with my mother who has dementia (beginning) and I can't really eliminate stress. I am doing my best with the rest though. Please tell me I do not have to take inderal or anything for the rest of my life. I am taking the ativan because the doctors in the ER gave me 2 lorazepam which brought my blood pressure down to 117/78 and then they gave me a prescription for the lorazepam. Does this mean that my blood pressure is mainly anxiety related?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   Before this iw ull ask few questi
User :   ok
Doctor :   provide your age, gender
User :   feale 41
User :   I just had a baby 3 months ago
Doctor :ok
User :
I am not married. I take care of my mother full tiem and she is kind of a nightmare. Very bitter, negative and difficult. I am tryinng to get someone to live in the home to take care of her so I can have a mental and physical break
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :how many childrens do you have
User :   At 130/90 I do not believe that I should have been prescribed blood pressure medication. I believe the doctor should have recommended that I make changes, but not chain me to a medicine with so many side effects. I believe it was very irresponsible and hope that my anxiety is causing the blood pressure. I have always had a problem with anxiety and have been inthe past prescribed just about everything you can imagine, but I never had high blood pressure until I moved to a place that I hated and my then boyfriend decided to marry someone else. Among other things, I was STRESSED out
User :   \I only have the one baby.
Doctor :   see Inderal is not a medications just prescribed for the blood pressure it is also prescribed to control anxiety
User :   I can feel my blood presure increase when my mother is home. She recently returned from a two month stay at my sisters and I felt good for the first time in a long time.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :are you staying alone at home with the child
User :   I know it is prescribed for both, but the doctor mentioned that my blood pressure was a little high so he would start me on the inderal. I am home with my baby and my mother every day.
Doctor :ok
Doctor :ok
Doctor :do not worry too much
Doctor :as you said you are having a baby recently
Doctor :you are undergoinglot of stress
Doctor :first thing you are a known anxiety individual
User :   I just want to know if the ATIVAn (alprazolam) is going to help. It is not the Lorazepam that I was given in the hospital. Are they the same thing? I had my baby 3 months ago. I had very high blood pressure during that and immedidately after, it was 175/110 but I was a nervous wreck because of my mother.
User :   Will my blood pressure get to a stroke level with taking the ativan?
Doctor :   Alprazolam and lorezepam belong to the same group but it is not the the same medication
Doctor :   now what is your blood pressure
Doctor :   is it normal or still high
Doctor :   avoid stressors, you can get some body to take care of your mother
Doctor :   so that you can concentrate ont he baby
Doctor :you can get a person who can help you in both taking care of the child and your mother
Doctor :other thing the anxiety is usually increased due to child birth
Doctor :this is quite normal to get irritated, get anxious after child birth
User :   i know. my mother doesn't understand that taking care of both of them is hard. i do concentrate more on the baby now, but my mother is constantly vying for my attention. I don't know about childcare yet. I am not comfortable leaving her yet. Should the ativan help to keep the blood pressure down ?
Doctor :   ya
Doctor :since your high blood pressure is mainly due to anxiety the ativan will help to keep the blood pressure low
Doctor :do some yoga or m3editation to curb your anxiety and stress
Doctor :listen to some good music, read good books
Doctor :concentrate on your baby
User :   Ok. Just to reiterate. The ER doctors would have given me a blood pressure medication and not an anxiety medication if it hadn't worked to bring it down? It is possible to take ativan and have the blood pressure stay elevated right?
Doctor :keep an help to take care of your mother
Doctor :and make her to understand that she needs to take care of the baby too since it is too small
Doctor :or you can send your mother to your sister house for some time
Doctor :till you are well
Doctor :ya
Doctor :i suggest you to get the blood presssure checked onc ein a week
Doctor :if it still is raised
Doctor :you may need a blood pressure medication too
User :   thank you for the suggestions of the relaxations. I have never been good at taking care of myself and now I know I must because my baby needs me. I will get someone to take care of mom right away. My mother is not capable of taking care of baby as she has dementia. And unfortunately, I begged my sister to keep my mother until I was well and she couldn't handle her and sent her home. It's been a big problem getting my family to help. NO one does and I have 5 siblings. They all think mom is my problem. I know you don't have a crystal ball, but what blood pressure causes stroke? Very high or not so high?
Doctor :do you have nay more queries
Doctor :   is ther eany thing i can help you
User :   Is Ativan hard to get off of? I dont' want to get dependent on anything. I just need help for to get my life right. Do you think it's possible to eliminate blood pressure meds with good lifestyle and eating?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   eat helthy foods
Doctor :   have atleast 7-8 hours of sound sleep
Doctor :   Avoid excess of salt, avoid pickles, chips etc
Doctor :   Involve is some kind of relaxation like yoga and meditation
Doctor :   and some exercises like walking, swimming
Doctor :   Ativan usually do not cause addiction
Doctor :   it can be tappered off
Doctor :   it usaully does not casues dependence
Doctor :   do you have any more queries
Doctor :   Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   thank you. please let me know though if stroke is likely or unlikely while taking ativan for anti anxiety
Doctor :   No
User :   no. not likley?
