User :   Hi, my wife has been complaining of some pain near her ankle for a long time now. She is hesitant to go to a doctor. Till yesterday the pain was "bearable" according to her own admission. Today morning when she got up from the bed she couldn't place her foot down on the floor apparently due to the pain in her ankle. We had been to a General Physician over two weeks ago and he asked us to get an X-Ray done. The X-Ray showed everything as being normal. What do we do now? Kindly help. Thanks.

User :   pls ask me any questions you might have Dr...., I will get you answers
Doctor :   It can be a slight sprain injury.
User :   she says she slipped on the staircase once... then it sprained once
Doctor :   It is possible that she may have injured some of her nerve
Doctor :   ok
User :   there has been a puss formation on the ankle
Doctor :   That might have cause some hairline fracture also
User :   shouldn't a hairline fracture be visible in an X-Ray Dr. Pathak?
Doctor :   If there is some pus also it indicates there is some infection.
User :   She took a Dolo 650 and the pain seemed to have subsided
Doctor :   Yes it should have, but sometimes it is aggravated by daily movements when only little sprain is there
User :   ok
User :   what do you suggest we do now?
Doctor :   Ypu should go and get it examined by an orthopaedic soon so that the infection does not spread more,
Doctor :   as it can lead to various complications
Doctor :   Also he may ask some investigations to be done
User :   ok
Doctor :   Pus formation is not a good sign,.
Doctor :   Do not try self medication
User :   what are the probabilities that we are dealing with Dr. Pathak?
Doctor :   It cam be she had a mild sprain and since it was ignored and no rest was taken it could have given way to bacteria or virus which led to pus formation
User :   ok
Doctor :   Does she have swelling?
User :   Yes, there is mild swelling also
Doctor :   Ask her not to sit in squatting position and elevate her legs as it may increase the swelling
User :   ok

User :   that's when it pains the most she says
Doctor :   Try to avoid it for sometime.
User :   ok
Doctor :   She can use cold fomentation 3 to 4 times in a day
Doctor :   Any position which is aggravating the pain should be avoided.
Doctor :   Avoid walking and standing too much
User :   Whats cold fomentation?
User :   ok. will try to avoid most positions.
Doctor :   She can wrap ice in some clean towel and can keep it on swelling on and off.
Doctor :   Always keep the infection clean and dry.
User :   ok
Doctor :   If the pus is oozing out clean it with a cotton swab.
User :   yeah she did that cleaning once. Wiped it with a cotton cloth.
Doctor :   Drink plenty of water so that it will also reduce some swelling and clear the toxins
Doctor :   Is there anything else i can help you with?
Doctor :   Are you there?
