Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you?
User :   hi
User :   I was wondering if you have ever seen or had a patient with a few beats of ankle clonus in each leg
Doctor :   Clonus is a sign elicited by doctors on explanation.
User :   hello
Doctor :   Could you elaborate what you meant by ankle clonus?
User :   yeah
User :   well I just got back from my doctors and he said I still have ankle clonus 3 or more beats in each ankle
Doctor :   May I know the reason why you visited the doctor at the first place?
User :   just a routine check
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Clonus is a hyper exaggerated deep tendon reflexes.
Doctor :   The causes are varied ranging from few metobolic causes such as calcium deficiencies, to neurological.
User :   yeah I know, I am just trying to figure out why I have it when all my test are good and strength is good
Doctor :   It is difficult to ascertain the reasons without other physical examination findings.
Doctor :   If the findings are worrisome, the doctor would order a few tests that will include blood tests or perhaps scans of the spinal cord and brain
Doctor :   to rule out neurological findings.
User :   ok
User :   yeah I have had MRI of brain and cervical spine, all clear
Doctor :   If the scans are fine, then the cause perhaps is metabolic which is most likely reversible.
Doctor :   So do not worry.
User :   and blood work of thyroid and sed rate were all normal also b12 was good too
Doctor :   The current metabolic work ups (the thyroid and vitamin B12 levels) are normal, which is a good positive sign.
Doctor :   So do not worry.
User :   thats very hard to do with feeling like a neuro disease is lurking
User :   but is the clonus a sign that something more serious is coming
Doctor :   If the structural problems have been ruled out by the scans, then I do not foresee major problems happening.
Doctor :   No need to panic.
Doctor :   To put across in simple words,
User :   ok
Doctor :   In the presence of exaggerated deep tendon reflexes, both brain/spinal cord structural problems and metabolic conditions such as liver/thyroid/calcium and others need to be assessed.
User :   do some people just have this
Doctor :   Yes, some people can have this due to extra sensitive deep tendon reflexes.
Doctor :   when the above conditions have been ruled out, the extra sensitive deep tendon reflexes is not concerning.
Doctor :   Your doctors have done good job by ruling both the spinal/brain problems along with the metabolic problems out.
Doctor :   So not need to worry.
Doctor :   No complications are expected
Doctor :   I have to close the window as you are not responding. Please chat with us if you have any more medical queries.
