User :   hi
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   hi, I am in the beginning of my 30 weeks pregnant and my Hb is 9.6. I am taking my prenatal vitamin (prenate plus) and my doctor said i need to take my iron supplement (ferrous sulfate 325mg 2x day) I started my iron supplement 3 days ago. How long will it take for my Hb to go up ? And will it go up enough before i go into labor (due date 4/2/11) so I don't have any complications with my iron being low ?
Doctor :   the Hb is not very low
Doctor :   Its managable for a normal vaginal delivery
Doctor :   if it goes for a C section then there would be need for blood
Doctor :   and it needs minimum of 2 months for the oral iron replenish the stores
User :   but if i started taking my iron supplement, how much will it go up before i go into labor ?
Doctor :   may be by 1gm%
User :   So i have time to restore my iron to a normal level by the time i go into delivery ?
Doctor :   yes, you do
Doctor :   good diet and vitamin C supplement will add to the absorption
User :   Is this considered mild anemia or moderate? my rbc is 2.93 and my hematocrip is 28.1
Doctor :   hence consume citrus fruit juices
Doctor :   well according to the HB and the Rbc mild anemia is what to be considered
Doctor :   the hematocrit is of no importance due to hemodilution in pregnancy
User :   when i take my iron, how long should i wait to take my prenatal vitamin?
Doctor :   Its better for them to be at different meals
Doctor :   i mean if iron taken at breakfast and dinner , vitamin in the noon
User :   ok so a couple of hours in between...that's what Ive been doing.
Doctor :   thats fine
Doctor :   iron must be taken after meal
User :   ok. and how long usually do doctors follow up with another blood test to check my iron ?
User :   ok
Doctor :   Are you able to read me ?
User :   now i can
Doctor :   ok,
Doctor :   monthly once if on treatment
User :   he told me he was going to see me in 1 week to give me a treatment plan? what does that entale?
Doctor :   May i know treatment plan for what ?
User :   for the anemia.
Doctor :   its just iron supplement dosage, i do not think of anything extra
User :   Oh ok. I guess it's probably everything im doing now.
Doctor :   Some times doctors do prescribe injectable iron preparations too
Doctor :   the injectables are fast to act
Doctor :   ask him about the same
User :   but if my iron is mild due to me not taking my iron supplement pills and now I am, wouldnt that solve the problem ?
Doctor :   yes, i do agree with you
Doctor :   oral iron is much enough
User :   ok. so maybe i need to clarify that with the dr when i see him. Either way thatnk you for your help. I feel for relaxed.
Doctor :   You are welcome
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me , kindly provide your feedback
User :   ok i will.
Doctor :   Bye for now
Doctor :   Take care
User :   thanks, you too
