User :   Hi, I am a 62 year old male in what I think is good health. I can run a half marathon in 2:20 without any fatigue or problems etc. I do like to drink at the week ends and sometimes I drink quite a lot over Sat and Sunday. My blood pressure average is good at about 130/80 but on Mondays it rockets up to maybe 175/ 95 and then its not bad by Wed and then with some exercise its fine once again by the week end. My simple question is this really dangerous or just moderately so (which I am prepared to live with). Thanks
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Pls. give me few secs. to go throuh your query.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   May I ask you a few questions to help you better ?
User :   yes no problem
Doctor :   Are you on any medication for Blood Pressure ?
User :   No meds at all
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   According to statistical datas and geriatric medicine , it is taken into consideration that the Blood Pressure could be 140/90.
Doctor :   But anything above that would always be a risk factor for any Cardio-vascular upheavel.
Doctor :   Though the diastoly at 95 is tolerable once in a while , but 175 is a bit too high, and has to be reduced.
Doctor :   And i would suggest you to avoid binge drinking in the weekend to take better care of yourself.
Doctor :   Hope you have followed , do you want me to help you with anything else ?
Doctor :   Are you there ?
User :   basically i understand all of this and cannot disagree with anything you have said. However you have not answered my basic question with respect to risk. I know that 175 is not good on a sustained basis but just how much extra risk am I taking on by having these peaks once a week on Monday....a qualitative answer is fine....small medium or large...
Doctor :   Ok. I would say small medium considering your health status in particular, otherwise for your age , I would say Large.
Doctor :   " Small medium "
User :   Ok thanks, am getting there but your answer sounds ambiguous.......are you saying that provided I am in the good health that I describe then the risk is small/medium?
Doctor :   Yes, as your health status is very good as you have specified that you can rum for quite long , I have said Small to Medium as I have to consider other factors like your Lipid levels in blood and your Patency in Triple vessels by an Angio or Echo & EKG Study. If only your Blood Pressure parameter is taken , It is said as " Small "
Doctor :   As any cardio-vascular risk analysis is incomplete without EKG Study.
User :   Thanks very much Doctor, thats all I need and I appreciate it very much.
Doctor :   Thank you for consulting me.
Doctor :   Take care.
User :   Bye now and thanks.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
